Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-21-19

BTW, here's Marquez's last game... In the 1st: 96-98 FB, 87-89 SL. Dominant. In the 2nd: 95-97, T99 FB, 88-90 CH, 87-88 SL. Dominant again. In the 3rd & 4th: Velocities remain consistent. A couple errors allowing runners to advance who eventually scored on outs. 2 of Marquez's 3 walks were the l...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-21-19

Yovanni Cruz: 2 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K. Second start of the season. Holding out hope he can get stretched out and get to Eugene or South Bend for a few starts. :beg: I had Cruz ranked 10th in the system going into the year, and then he had to go and be a pitcher. The Cubs must be pretty tight-lip...

I thought this was well-established protocol. Never use the word "no-hitter" during a no-hitter. This one's on you, pal. I'm telling Zach.

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-18-19

18-year-old DSL LHP Andricson Salvador is putting up interesting numbers in his first pro season. He's 5'11, 180 lbs., so he's likely another soft-tossing lefty in a long line of such that have surprised in the DSL for the Cubs lately (Luis Rodriguez, Didier Vargas, Carlos Rodriguez, etc.), but I ha...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-17-19

Cub minor league pitcher of the month for June, Jack Patterson has a ways to go, but he's up to his old tricks again today, shutting out the Carolina Mudcats through 5.1 bringing his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 23.1. Interestingly, both the minor league and major league records are the s...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-17-19

Brennen Davis to the IL. Expected, but still horsefeathers to see. At this point, Congress needs to hire another Special Counsel to investigate whether Brennan Davis decided to bunt on his own or the Russians made him do it. Somebody needs to be held accountable. Seriously, man, if a coach had Davi...

Re: Minor League Musings

Give me a couple of under-the-radar guys you like in the AZL Eric A Longenhagen: I put the Rangers guys on The Board. Heriberto Hernandez, Ovalles, Florentino. Keyber looks better Jorge Juan, big righty from Oakland, was 90-94 last time I saw him after he was 88-92 during extended. He’s a rare phys...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-16-19

The Duane Underwood conversion to relief looks like it's bearing fruit. He converted May 31st and his first appearance sucked, but since June 1st: 13 Gs, 19 IP, 15 H, 5 BB, 0 HR, 25 K 1.89/2.11 ERA/FIP I dont have anything on his groundball rate since the switch, but given how the ball is flying in...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-16-19

Jeez, talk about hot and cold. On July 5th, Cuban catcher Alexander Guerra was hitting .111/.250/.333 after having gone 0-for his last-12, striking out 6 times in 13 PAs. Since then, he's gone 12-for-28 (.429) with 2 walks, 2 singles, 1 double, 2 triples and 7 HRs with 20 RBI over his last 7 games r...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-16-19

Yovanny Cruz is alive! Started for AZL Cubs 2: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K, 1-1 GO-FO, 10-2 GO-FO. Hopefully he can get stretched out and get a few starts for Eugene this season. Yes, I was very happy to see this. I'd love to see what Cruz, Albertos, Estrada and Correa could do if they'd just stay fr...

Riley Thompson with 5 shutout, no walk innings to lower his ERA to 2.35. Gotta be a promotion coming for him soon I would think, right? Davis goes 2-for-4, both singles. Morel stays on his hot streak going 3-for-5 with a triple. Roederer went 0-for-4 with a walk and a K. He's played 10 days in a row...

Ademan's been in a terrible slump of late hitting .147 over his last 10 games. Still getting his walks, though, with 5 against 6 Ks in that time span so maybe it's just a bad stretch.

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-5-19

I know Maples struggled a bit with the mental side of the game early in his pro career, but it sure is weird why he's struggled so much in the bigs. The stuff is certainly big league caliber.

In his last 7 minor league appearances:

6.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 15 K.

Got a fun little battle going on for the South Bend Cubs lead in HRs.

Brennan Davis hit is 4th yesterday to enter a 3-way tie with Christopher Morel (and Tyler Durna). Morel comes right back today to notch his 5th.

Not exactly McGwire v. Sosa, but keep it going, boys.

If the Cubs are over the limit or close to it and want to sign more kids, I guess that would mean some trades for IFA money are likely.

Welp, scratch him off the list. Pitchers dropping like flies being camped under by Brant Brown.

Sounds like it wasn’t an arm or shoulder injury, at least.

Phew! Any idea what it was?

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 6-28-19

Nice to see Estrada bounce back (4.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K) after a terrible outing. It's expected that he would be inconsistent early on after missing all of last season to injury. I'm intrigued to see what he and Kohl Franklin can do in full season ball next year. The Cubs have a shot at c...
