Re: The Cubs are Adding a Second AZL Team This Year

Nice!. Been waiting on this. Yanks, D-Backs, Astros and I think a few others have two. The more the merrier, I say.

oh my god this is hysterical with theo right now lmaoooooooooooo https://www.facebook.com/NBCSChicago/videos/10155476578036429/ It’s been removed. What did it say? On why Ohtani didn't sign with the Cubs: Theo said they wished him well and asked why he didn't sign with the Cubs, and Ohtani in broke...

Re: Starting Pitching candidates

Players don’t regain velocity. Teheran hasn't lost any velocity. Per Fangraphs: 2014 - Fastball 92.3, Slider 82.1, Curve 74.0 2017 - Fastball 92.0, Slider 83.1, Curve 73.8 I don’t want to give up horsefeathering anything for him. There’s a reason the Braves went from considering him untouchable to ...

Re: Starting Pitching candidates

If a package of Happ, Caratini, Ademan (plus?) can bring back Teheran, one of their starting pitching prospects and AJ Minter, I'm down. I'd rather overpay for Cobb or Lynn (let's just take Yu and Jake out of the equation) or even bargain shop and bring in 2-3 of guys like Hellickson, Bucholz, Feld...

Re: Starting Pitching candidates

There are absolutely no rumors involving Julio Teheran so I don't have any idea of Atlanta's willingness to move him (although no rumors have never been an indication one way or another for this stealthy front office), but I'd love to get him. He's coming off a down year (which isn't necessarily a ...

Re: Cubs Offseason Rumors

I could be wrong, but to me the idea of trading for Gerrit Cole is more exciting than the reality of what you get when you trade for Gerrit Cole. I can get that sentiment for sure. But, I'd guess his next 2 years are in the same vicinity of production as Jake or Yu, at a fraction of the money and w...

Re: Starting Pitching candidates

I wonder if we are trying to do something like 3/70 (~$23 aav) with Arrieta or Darvish with it being broken down 25/25/20 first 3 years and opt out after next year with a ~$5 mil buyout. Give both a solid base if they want it but potential to get more entering a more spend friendly market next offs...

Re: Cubs Offseason Rumors

Honestly I want to hold onto Vic. I mean if he is a piece in that deal for the CCSP we covet, then fine. I won't shed a tear. But I think there is a really solid ML hitter there who will make like 2 mil over the next 4 seasons. If Willy were to miss time, I'd rather see what Vic can bring over a bu...

Re: Orioles are shopping Machado - (Cubs in talks per Levine)

That's good thinking but in order for it to work, Baltimore would have to agree to trade Machado for Montgomery + without the plus being Russell or Baez. Are you agreeing to Happ or Schwarber or are you thinking Monty, Almora and Alzolay (+ lesser prospects maybe) gets it done? Montgomery and Almor...

Re: Orioles are shopping Machado - (Cubs in talks per Levine)

TT, what’s your rationale for thinking the Cubs want to replace Jake’s star power? That seems like an arbitrary thing that this front office wouldn’t get caught up in. I don't mean that they want someone who Joe Fan recognizes, I mean they literally want to have a star-caliber player added. This is...

Re: Wade Davis Signs with the Rockies, 3/$52 M

Sorta makes me happy that they landed Chatwood early for reasonable years, despite my concerns on Chatwood. Yes, I was quite pleased with his signing. The concerns about him are valid (the greatest of which for me is health), but the GB% is elite, the spin rate is elite, the curveball was once well...

Re: Wade Davis Signs with the Rockies, 3/$52 M

Good for Davis. I wouldn't want to give him that deal, but I'm also of the opinion that with Wade, 3 years is fine, and he might end up being worth it. Such a slow moving market. Seems like the SP market is waiting for Darvish ... or maybe even waiting on Cobb, since there are some teams that proba...

Re: THE Bryce Harper in 2018 Thread

Someone please explain to me why J-hay would option out? He wouldn't. (Or at least he shouldn't) But more importantly, he doesn't have to in order to be moved. Assuming current production going forward? Because he won't be a starter in 2019? He'd be better off letting the FO know he'll waive his no...

Re: The Yu Darvish Thread

In an ideal world I prefer the trade route for acquiring the next Cubs starting pitcher, but if it were Darvish, how high would you be willing to go to get him? 5 years at 25 million per? 4 years at 28 per? 6 at 22? More? Not what you would ideally (and realistically) hope to sign him for but what w...

Re: THE Bryce Harper in 2018 Thread

In my estimation, Theo and Jed had that window (tradeable after 2018 to the beginning of 2020) included in Heyward's contract for two specific possibilities. 1) Harper becoming a FA after 2018 and 2) the likely development timeline of Eloy Jimenez.

Re: THE Bryce Harper in 2018 Thread

https://www.fanragsports.com/murray-cubs-appear-to-be-favorites-to-land-bryce-harper/ The new favorite to acquire Harper, in my opinion, is the Chicago Cubs. That guess isn’t sourced – it’s merely speculation. But I’m not the only person to think it. Not by a long shot. EDIT: Jason Heyward has a pl...

Woke up to this gem on the front of the ESPN MLB section http://www.espn.com/blog/chicago/cubs/post/_/id/46311/why-cubs-should-make-addison-russell-for-manny-machado-blockbuster-deal I'd also want Gausman back as part of a much larger deal. Re: Starting Pitching candidates

So trade for Patrick Corbin as a 1-year stopgap or the field? (The field being make the big trade for Archer (or someone else good), sign Cobb, sign Darvish, sign Arrieta, go with Montgomery and sign lesser depth options.) I'm leaning acquiring Corbin assuming the price is fair (meaning none of Hap...
