Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 6-19-18

Nelson Velázquez hit his first HR of the season. José Albertos: 3.2 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, Reivaj Garcia is 2/4 with a double so far. Erling Moreno: 4.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K, 8-1 GO-FO. I guess that's progress for Albertos. What injury was Moreno dealing with? To my understanding, this specif...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 6-19-18

With how badly he was struggling with his command in South Bend and AZ Phil's reports that those difficulties continued in Mesa (chunking FBs in the dirt, missing badly, walking guys, HBPs), it actually notable that Albertos didn't allow a hit, didn't walk anyone and got a K in a 1-2-3 first inning.

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 6-19-18

AZ Phil has had some good reports on Erling Moreno this spring in his efforts to re-tool his mechanics. Tonight's start AZL Cubs 2 will be his first game action of the season. Interested to see how he fares.

Oh, and by the way, Raisin is so prolific in facilitating this forum for all of us that I wanted to remind everyone that this is his sandbox and we're just pooping in it.

Thank you, Navin, for all you do.

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 6-19-18

This could be a crazy night pitching wise. Underwood has been struggling of late and Albertos still hasn't shown he's over his battle with Steve Blass disease.

Re: International Free Agency Thread 2017-2018

In disappointing and somewhat surprising news, the Cubs have released RHP Florencio Serrano. He was signed for $1.2 million (the same amount as SS Luis Verdugo) out of Mexico. Serrano has/had a fastball that sits in the low 90s and topped out at 94 MPH with a sharp-breaking curveball that was talked...

Fabian Pertuz, probably the Cub with the best numbers over all in the DSL, was hit by a pitch on Thursday, immediately taken out and hasn't played since. Hopefully, it's not too bad.

A guy is in a terrible car accident. His insides are all torn up. He's in surgery for 7 hours while his poor wife sits on pins and needles in the waiting room. Finally, the surgeon comes out. The wife runs over to him. "Doc, you gotta tell me, just level with me, is he gonna make it?!" The...

All kidding aside, per AZ Phil, and I'm sure you know all this already, 88-91 on the FB, advanced change, developing curve, with good control of all offerings. Keegan Thompson is perfect through 6. Thompson done after 7 perfect. Tyler Peyton now in. Peyton gives up a hit in the 8th to snap the perfect game at 7.1 innings. I had a bad feeling when they brought Peyton in. He’s had a rough time of late. He promptly allows 4 runs through a third of an inning.

Gonna be tough to find all the ABs that will be necessarily after all the college bats sign. I do like that Velazquez is going to Eugene though. Just not quite ready for A ball yet. Yeah, it's a decent roster as far as having some possible decent to high end prospects on it. C - Soto 2B - Diaz SS -...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 6-11-18

For a while now, the narrative has been that the Cubs have struggled to scout and develop pitching, and I think deservedly so. But that might be changing. We've seen several arms take a step forward over the last couple of seasons. Last year the big breakout was Adbert Alzolay followed by Dillon Map...
