Re: Trade targets 2019

With Willy back tomorrow there almost has to be a trade or Vic being sent down in the next ~24 hours. I suppose they could go 3 catchers and send Bote down and have Willy play OF. But I’m guessing a Vic trade or send down is more likely. Of you could find a phantom injury with Descalso and stop pla...

Re: Trade targets 2019

Dyson is basically a LF hitting Almora (actually slightly worse statistically). A singularly unappealing option. For the last two months of the season, though, I'd rather have the speedy guy with a .335 OBP than the slow guy with a .275 OBP. Dyson also serves as the base stealer Theo often adds for...

Re: Trade targets 2019

I also think, although it hurts the defense for the first seven innings or so, replacing his bat with Almora's in the lineup is pretty big. A Schwarber-Heyward-Casellanos outfield might be scary on D, but I think it might be worth going for it. I dont think he would start against a lot of right han...

Re: Trade targets 2019

I mean, I'd love to unload junk on Baltimore. Let's just offer Russell and some of our AAA arms for Givens and Villar and see what happens. I don't get the intense love for Castellanos. He's an OK bat and a terrible fielder and he'd be a rental. I don't see "intense love" for Castellanos....

Re: Trade targets 2019

Since the Giants are apparently never going to lose again, Pillar and the relievers might be coming off the table. I don't get all the interest in Pillar. 30 yrs. old with a career slash of .260/.295/.400/.695 making about $6 million. Almora is making next to nothing is 25 yrs.old and has career nu...

.213 BAA now 3rd best among qualified NL starters. 8 swing-and-misses on the 4-seamer today.

Re: Martin Maldonado to Cubs

Not attacking your point, but it's funny to me how many have written off (or are in the process of writing off) Schwarber, a pedigreed 26 year old with a career .340 wOBA/111 wRC+, and now he's being discussed as not enough to bring back a guy who at 26 hadn't reached the majors and was putting up ...

Re: Martin Maldonado to Cubs

The starting point for Merrifield would probably be Schwarber and Hoerner, and that wouldn't be enough. That's not happening. Wonder if they were talking something like Monty, Vic, Happ, Amaya and some other prospects for Whit and Maldonado. https://twitter.com/tonyandracki23/status/1150991610601254912?s=21 The starting point for Merrifield would probably be Schwarber and Hoerner, and that wouldn't be enough. Re: Martin Maldonado to Cubs

If they trade Vic, they damn well better get something pretty good. He can hit, is a switch-hitter decent from both sides, and his overall D and framing have really improved this season.

Re: Trade targets 2019

I'd happily take Sogard if the cost were low enough. But I'd love to get one of their relievers in the deal too.

Re: It’s not me, it’s Yu

Did Yu at least get some appreciation from the fans today, I hope?

Apart from the HRs, he’s basically pitching like an ace since May 15. His peripherals are outstanding. Hopefully he could be in line for a killer 2nd half.

Re: Cubs in agreement with Craig Kimbrel 3/$43m with 4th year option

I just think it's silly to blame the gun, a classic fan rationalization. Was the gun off on his first appearance too, on the road? Pedro Strop must have a squad of slow guns following him everywhere he goes. As I said - mildly concerning. Not a huge deal at this point that Kimbrel's velocity is down...

Sure, blame the gun. It's probably bullshlt, but human nature to want to feel better.

More 93-94 from Kimbrel tonight. I would describe that as mildly concerning at this stage.

Re: Trade targets 2019

I like the fact that Kimbrel makes us look a lot less desperate in trade talks, but still no reason not to try and jump the queue for someone like Watson. He's obviously available, won't cost a top prospect and will have a ton of suitors if we wait. Not a super splits guy but still under .600 career...

Re: Cubs in agreement with Craig Kimbrel 3/$43m with 4th year option

AND a “qualified” physician concludes player does not have “Non-Temporary” Injury. Is that a normal thing in a team option? That doesn’t sound common. Since our team doctor has a 3 star Yelp rating it makes sense for us to do this. I would imagine "qualified doctor" would be anyone agreed...

Re: Cubs in agreement with Craig Kimbrel 3/$43m with 4th year option

was just checking In to see people's thoughts on the Kimbrel signing, nice to see it devolved into some kind of anti-trump thread fairly quickly, I guess things are pretty much as terrible as ever... See you guys in a couple years when Trump is your president again... Don't let the door hit you in ...

Re: Kimbrel?

Now that this is happening, I'll say that there's things to worry about with Kimbrel, from the long layoff, to being almost 32, to any reliever being a roll of the dice to a certain degree. However, for a very, very long time Kimbrel has been insanely good , so there's plenty of reason to be excite...

Re: Kimbrel?

It all comes down to the contract for me if we commit multiple years I won’t like it The only way I like it is if it's for multiple years. Given how likely it Kimbrel is a bust this season, a 1-year deal would be utterly stupid. Guy averaged 97 on the heater last year. He struggled in the 2nd half ...

Re: Kimbrel?

I know its a pipe dream and who knows if Morrow is even alive much less in line to return but how awesome would this set up be in October: 9th - Kimbrel 8th - Morrow 7th - Strop 6th - Cishek Believe me, I'm dreaming it. But I think at this point Morrow is less likely to pitch in a Cubs uniform than...

Re: 2019 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

Strumpf is an interesting pick and certainly not a reach where we took him, but there are some definite yellow flags there. Regressed big-time this season, not much of a defender or baserunner so it's hit or bust with him.
