Re: Hendricks extended through 2023

He's a pitcher. It's 50/50 that his early 30s will be spent with his arm attached to his body. Yes, that's part of why he's getting money comparable to a post-prime outfielder instead of the 28 year old who has a 3 year ERA identical to Chris Sale, who as luck would have it also just signed, but fo...

Re: Politics & Current Events

In case CubinNY thought he was the only one who lived in a stupid state: https://twitter.com/dailykos/status/1111313219568762881 Alabama is not merely a stupid state, it's the stupidest state. Re: Politics & Current Events

I didn't look at the responses, which I'm sure are measured and reasonable. https://twitter.com/MrAlexBurgess/status/1110928583760011264 Didn't he recently pledge to release 10 years of tax returns? This seems like cheap shot. He pledged to do it but has not done it. Not sure how that is a cheap sh...

Re: Guess what an idiot with a gun did this time

I always come back to that in how to punish gun crimes; if someone ends up using a gun that was given to them or gifted or sold off the books or under the table or whatever the horsefeathers and it could be traced back to who gave/sold it to them, then that latter person should, at the very least, ...

Re: TV thread

Russian Doll feels a lot like someone trying to make The Good Place for HBO. It's not as good as The Good Place, but I think it mostly works. It was like a mix between a darker Good Place and Groundhog Day. Wasn't bad for a Netflix show, though I cant get that damn Harry Nilsson song out of my head...

Re: Hendricks extended through 2023

I would not extend Baez without extending Bryant first. There's no reason extending Baez needs to be linked to extending Bryant. Ideally you sign them both to long term contracts, but since Baez is much more likely to sign an extension than Bryant, you extend him when you can. Unless you're in the ...

Re: 2019 is Jason Heyward fixed thread

https://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/cubs-jason-heyward-giants-mark-melancon-keep-contracts-110118 If he has 550 plate appearances next year, he would again have the right to void the deal and become a free agent. He's going to shock us all by rocking a 1.450 OPS this season, setting the single seas...

Re: Hendricks extended through 2023

Some of this is to also show the other young guys that while they may not get a huge payday in free agency, if they perform, they'll get a decent/fair extension when the time comes. I'm guessing they hope to get Javy's/Schwarber's attention.

Bryant, of course, is a whole other ball of wax...

He's averaging close to 2k per inning in his ultra-small MLB sample size. Big leaguers swing at them and miss. He just needs more consistency with his other pitches to set that up.

There's also the fact that, of the guys you could send down, he's had easily the worst spring. Since you can't send Heyward down, Happ gets the short straw.

Re: Politics & Current Events

To really simplify it, the House votes on whether a president should be impeached. The Senate is then effectively the court if there is a majority vote for impeachment. I think it's fair to say that unless there's a smoke gun with clean fingerprints, impeachment is a non-starter. Instead, the House...

It sucks; the guy is great, but the second Trump mouth-farts out something, like, "what is this guy called? BUTT GIG?!?" he's toast. Yeah, he's one of my favorites, but we're a long way from a gay man being a viable candidate for President, unfortunately. I think we'd be more likely to se...
