Re: General Other Sports Chit-Chat Thread

My Field Hockey coaching career came to an end with an undefeated season and our 3rd championship in 4 years. The other season we won the regular season title but lost the playoff game. Our best player was nominated for player of the year but lost out to the best player on the team that we beat 3 t...

Re: The Bryce is Right, Bitch

Yeah.... Schwarber likely won't be as plus a defender, i dont know wtf is going on in CF but if you have confidence in Almora/Happ that's your burden. Heyward is obviously washed. Rizzo is out of the prime phase. Zobrist is 45. Javy likely won't be a 5-WAR guy ever again. Bryant is an unknown. Cont...

Yeah, if this downturn is making you uncomfortable, you probably shouldn't be in the market in the first place. http://66.media.tumblr.com/457bb6160f6e82c200e3f86ec201f45d/tumblr_ncn8rlrE871sfub4yo1_400.gif Sadly, so few people have the options of actual pensions these days, they don't really have ...

Re: Politics & Current Events

I like the idea that the deep state is a horrible, uncontrolable beast until you imagine it is trying to put Hillary in jail. Or the idea that a Flynn guilty plea and subsequent cooperation was the first domino needed to bring down Hillary. There is no way the people typing this actually believe it....

I wonder how they pitched waiting on Kopech’s arm to heal, Cease being a relief pitcher, hoping none of their other pitchers die, Eloy likely being a 2-3 win DH and Moncada being a 2-3 win 2B as being a great young core https://twitter.com/670thescore/status/1070046353349320704?s=21 Maybe they said...

Re: Movie Thread 2: The Sequel

Thoughts on Buster Scruggs? - I'd watch an entire Buster Scruggs movie. Tim Blake Nelson rules. - The Liam Neeson one dragged a bit. - The finale was the weakest one, although I still enjoyed it. - I'll watch anything with Stephen Root in it. Glad to see him in the Franco one. - My favorite...

The US Postal Service announced it will "suspend regular mail deliveries, retail services and administrative office activity" on Wednesday for the national day of mourning honoring the late former President George H.W. Bush. Is that typical? That seems really bizarre. Not sure how you hon...

The idea of this place being an echo chamber merely because most of us fans dislike serial domestic abusers and bigotry, when most everyone spends all their time here trying to make hay out of inaccuracies in others' hot takes (be the topic baseball, music, or toilet preferences), is a new breed of ...

It's amazing that Charles the Cat is the only reporter that has any rumors at all about the Cubs so far and they almost all seem to be what we want to hear. I dunno, I'm worried they're gonna blow all their money on Harper and take themselves out on Arenado. It might take them out of a backup C, ba...

Btw, 85% isn't especially good within your own party, most especially for a Republican. That's not true; his average among Republicans is technically better than any Republican president since Eisenhower (who averaged 88%). http://www.pewresearch.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/FT_18.08.01_TrumpAppr...

lol, i'm no expert at politics, but the idea of trump not being the republican nominee in 2020 is hilarious. of course he'll be the nominee. hell, i don't even really see that convincing of an argument that he won't win again in 2020. Best chance of him not being the nominee is if he decides this i...

How am I overestimating Trump's approval among Reublicans? The polls regularly having him around 85% approval with Republicans. I'm not just guessing about what they're scribbling in their diaries as they stare dreamily at a big poster of him. And there is minimal chance that the Republicans run an...

Re: Politics & Current Events

It's already been in the 30s for a good portion of his presidency, it won't get into the low 30s or upper 20s. I doubt the GOP all of a sudden develops a moral compass surrounding intent to commit crimes, that would be irony at its finest. It's just a wave they're going to ride out until 2020, in t...

Re: Politics & Current Events

That's the key part to me; Trump's not a detriment along those lines. The GOP know they have to rig the game to keep clutching to power; pissing off their constituents by enabling the messy takedown of a Republican president is FAR more damaging to them than standing by a turd like Trump. Once the ...

Re: Politics & Current Events

Yes. Extrapolating Agnew as a parallel to Trump is a....very limber stretch. I won't deny that Trump has reached new heights of borrishness and that his dog whistle madness is of a much larger amplitude, but the playbook ain't new. I also won't pretend that the GOP is exactly the same now as it was...
