Re: Sports Media Thread

A short shower (let's say less than 5 minutes) makes sense. 90 seconds or less is absurd and gross. iirc, the way the article described it is that he turns the water on briefly to get wet, then turns it off while he scrubs up. Then he rinses off. So it running water for 90 seconds, but the "sh...

Re: Which Crazy Surprise Things Will Happen?

Had to go with the Schwarber option. .950 would exceed my expectations, but not by a whole lot. I think he's gonna bounce back in a big way.

Re: NL Central Also-Rans: Reds, Brewers, Pirates

I think the thought, besides flipping Santana for pitching, is to let Braun start at first base against every lefty and maybe even some righties. Thames was brutal against lefties last year, and really a sub-800 OPS in the second half for a first baseman isn't going to cut it either. Braun at first...

Re: NL Central Also-Rans: Reds, Brewers, Pirates

At some point the Cubs' model of buying a rotation rather than developing one, and having a so-so bullpen will catch up to them. how is this even a thought a person has? and why does it seem like 95% of baseball fans online think that there's something inherently better about players who were draft...

Re: Darvish to Cubs, 6/$126 Million + Incentives

ANY help would be appreciated. As maybe I am missing/reading things wrong...certainly wouldn't be the first time. The distinction is that they're trying to stay in the green this year so they can fly into the red next year with less worry. Depending on their tolerance for total payroll and the pena...

Re: The Yu Darvish Thread

I feel like the asking price for Archer is prohibitively high, otherwise he'd have been moved by now. I think it would cost the Brewers Santana plus 2-3 of their best remaining prospects. It would be a full buy-in move, and I don't believe it will happen. Even if it did, I don't think it would chang...

Re: Cain to Brewers

Not to mention Schwarber's first half struggles. The Brewers and Cubs both regressed to their respective means in the second half of 2017.

The bulk of the evidence suggests that time frame is much more like indicative of what to expect going forward.

Re: Cain to Brewers

Assuming the Cubs sign Darvish. I think the Vegas over under win totals will go something like this Cubs 93.5 Cards 87.5 Brewers 83.5 I would pound the under and watch them go 79-83 I might take the under on all 3 If we add Darvish, I'd probably take the over on the Cubs, and the under on St. Louis.

Re: Offseason Transactions

The Brewers sources guy says Santana to an AL team as soon as tomorrow. I’d guess Odorizzi, Fulmer, Salazar or Duffy for major league arms. He’s not nearly enough for Archer. Or else he’s traded off for prospects to replenish the Yelich trade a bit then they sign Cobb/Lynn/Jake I agree Santana’s no...

Re: The Cardinals

From GRB: I think the Cubs have the rotation edge, we have the edge in lineup , and the pens are pushes going into the year. Ahead of adding Ozuna I would have said the lineups were pushes as well. I like that back of the napkin math at the end of the day. I guess I'm more looking at the additions f...

Re: Starting Pitching candidates

I just can't get myself to want Jake back unless his contract is way below the supposed market value. I mean like 3/60, because even at 4/90 or something along those lines I just have zero interest. I hope the Cubs feel the same, because if that 4/112 rumor is true I'm going to vomit. I really feel...

Re: Orioles are shopping Machado - (Cubs in talks per Levine)

Hopefully, Theo is just trying to drive up the price for the Cards to acquire Machado. Bingo Yeah, this has to be it. Machado is a fine player, but trading for him doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. I really don't like the idea of giving up some of our best young players to acquire a player w...

Re: Winter Meetings 2017 thread

I wouldn't say they waited a year too long. I'd say they waited a few months too long. To ask them to trade Machado last winter ... after a 89 win season, a wildcard loss that might've been prevented had Buck gone to Zach Britton ... that's just unrealistic. They were still on the "high" ...

Re: Orioles are shopping Machado (and he wants to go back to SS)

I'm not willing to assume that the (crap) FO/ownership of the O's would fleece the Cards in any deal. The way they do business just wouldn't give me much confidence were I an O's fan. It's hard to tell how things would go with that team. While I don't think there would be a fleecing (I don't think ...

Re: Orioles are shopping Machado (and he wants to go back to SS)

The Cardinals getting Machado would certainly make 2018 a lot more interesting, but it's not something that would upset me all that much because it would cost Reyes/Weaver plus, and the Cards would have a snowball's chance in hell of retaining him beyond next year.
