Re: Politics & Current Events

I'm fairly certain there's basically no chance of a Democrat majority Senate given the seats that are up in 2020, even projecting a Dem win in White House. Yeah, I'd be stunned if they did any better than just maintaining the current split. The Dems have to defend SO many damn Senate seats. The qui...

Re: Politics & Current Events

The Dem field isn't exactly exciting me these days. I like many of Bernie's talking points, but just can't warm to him, and I can't get over my feeling that all he wants is the discussion, not actually governing. Warren is awesome. Her progressive policy chops cannot be questioned, and I have zero ...

Re: It's Maddoning

Do we have a lot of evidence of batters not being ok with pitchers showing emotion, especially in a hypocritical sense? Why is a bat flip considered disrespectful? The dong is what's important? After giving up a dong does a pitcher feel any better if the guy politely rounds the bases? I think we're...

I totally get where jersey's coming from in terms of not wanting to be embarrassed, but I think at this level it only adds to the intrigue/drama of the game. These guys are the be...

Re: It's Maddoning

Celebrations are the icing, not the cake. Baseball is a hell of a lot better with celebrations but pretty damn good without them, too. MLB’s current virality is based on celebrations, which is fun but likely not a sustainable way to grow the game (e.g. being conditioned to think that a walkoff isn’...

Are the celebrations not part of the sport?

Guys, Matthew Boyd is the best pitcher in baseball. If you're convinced that a player who has been the best pitcher in baseball is actually not the best pitcher in baseball, I don't know what to tell you.

Re: Albert Almora is insanely good

Surely Ian Happ could be OPSing more than .480. He doesn’t make a cool diving catch once every 2 weeks that is largely needed because he’s so slow, though I realize this is the crap on Almora thread, but metrics say you're completely wrong about this. He had the 2nd biggest gap between expected cat...

I'm confused...it's 55 points lower than his career average? While hitting essentially the same amount of hard hit balls? I mean...if you want to buy that he's a 10 HR/year guy now, then sure, let's get concerned. But I'm pretty far from there.

Re: "Time makes fools of us all" - The Kyle Schwarber Thread

So basically we're at 'I don't like the stats' and then 'well I assume there was someone better that we should have traded for'. Which also conveniently ignores the point of...who are you trading to get these upgrades after you expertly identified that weak players that still held enough value to ge...

Re: "Time makes fools of us all" - The Kyle Schwarber Thread

Schwarber could have still been valuable to the Braves and also it's obvious since day one that Schwarber is a DH. Those two opinions, back to back, definitely don't contradict at all.

Re: "Time makes fools of us all" - The Kyle Schwarber Thread

My point about trading Schwarber (and Russell) back when they had trade value was based on the fact that they were both easily replaced while giving us solid ML pitching (or top pitching prospects). Schwarber always has been the epitome of a DH in a league that doesn't use a DH. Russell's obvious r...

Re: "Time makes fools of us all" - The Kyle Schwarber Thread

When we're able to sadly boil it down in hindsight as that the Cubs were saddled with a bizarrely terrible Heyward for multiple years, and were limited to only replacing someone like Schwarber internally, yeah, it looks like they effectively had no choice. That is not, however, the ideal way we wer...

Re: Politics & Current Events

IMO, VP is such a neutered position that I wouldn't want Warren to get stuck there. I actually think that's the right spot for one of the younger candidates who doesn't get the nod, to ideally set them up to be able to run with a bigger profile. It doesn't have to be a neutered position. It all dep...

Re: "Time makes fools of us all" - The Kyle Schwarber Thread

The problem with the Cubs last year and the first month of this season are NOT as Schwarber, Almora, Happ, Contreras, Heyward, Darvish, Quintana, Edwards, Morrow or anyone else not named Bryzzo. Those guys are the fuel of the offense that runs everything else and has a huge impact on the other play...

Re: "Time makes fools of us all" - The Kyle Schwarber Thread

You can trade major league talent (who have major league roles) if you have minor league talent there to step in and take over. When you trade the minor league talent, if you trade the major league talent you're left having to sign the Daniel Descalsos of the world. I'm not going to try and go back ...

Re: "Time makes fools of us all" - The Kyle Schwarber Thread

I'm not saying they're supposed to magically know which guys aren't going to pan out; I'm saying the assumption should be that some of those guys weren't going pan out because that's baseball, and the prudent thing to do is to take the inherent gamble on who they think that guy or guys might be and...
