Re: 2019-20 Offseason Rumors/General Chit-Chat

The one thing I hadn't really thought about in the Horner MLBvAAA decision is that I don't know who is the backup SS in the event he starts the year in AAA. Probably Bote, maybe Descalso or Bryant. You're probably shuffling someone in from Iowa if Baez is out more than 48 hours even with Hoerner. E...

Re: NL DH by 2021?

, I'd rather keep it as is with the strategy that comes with it. Why do people keep pretending there is strategy involved here? It's not rocket science by any means, but there is absolutely strategy when you are working with a 4-5 man bench, one of which typically being the backup catcher (and, as ...

Re: 2019-20 Offseason Rumors/General Chit-Chat

how does Scooter keep Almora off the roster? Only way I can see is if they flex Nico to be the RH CF option, but that seems really unlikely compared to just letting Nico get more AAA playing time. Isn't Happ the RH CF option? Heyward is the CF back up, Souza/Bote/Hoerner is more than enough flexibi...

Re: NL DH by 2021?

Right, and pitchers are the only guys on the field who are there almost entirely for their extremely valuable contribution to run prevention. Just about everyone else advanced in the game because of what they can do for run scoring primarily. The dudes who have both the natural talent to hit MLB pi...

Re: NL DH by 2021?

The DH is dumb and lame, but this fight was lost when the DH started becoming a regular thing at lower levels of the game and pitchers no longer bothered working on their hitting. Might as well just get it over with. Pitchers don't suck at hitting because they don't work on it enough, they suck at ...

At this point any live body who makes it more likely that Almora doesn't make the roster is someone I want. I am no longer being rational about this.

Re: NL DH by 2021?

It would make the end of the roster decisions a lot less important for me. Which, honestly, is probably a good thing at this point. Still like the starting pitcher/hybrid idea.

Re: Cubs close to a deal with Steven Souza

I'm liking this move more and more, completes the OF puzzle while likely not really negatively impacting any possible major moves. I really like the matchup and situational depth in the OF for 2020, and that it's less dependent on Bryant, but it is one starless bunch: Schwarber/Souza/Happ/Almora Ha...

Re: 2019-20 Offseason Rumors/General Chit-Chat

Nico isn't gonna be on the bench. He's either starting or he's getting at bats in Iowa. Would guess if it's another infielder it's Hernan Perez or Robel. Maybe Short. If Hoerner makes the team, especially with that bench, I can see him making the starting line up a good amount just in a psuedo-Zobr...

Re: Cubs close to a deal with Steven Souza

Bringing in a platoon partner for Heyward is a good idea. Bringing in someone that also has a chance to be a valuable full time player is a better idea. Good work. However, the defense is going to look pretty questionable when you're running out Schwarber/Happ/Souza, and my concern is that the remed...

With Willy/Rizz/Bote/KB/Javy/Schwarber/Happ/Heyward as your 8 starters, your bench looks like

Caratini
Hoerner
Souza
Descalso
...probably Almora, or else Garcia.

Re: 2019-20 Offseason Rumors/General Chit-Chat

Would this be allowed to skirt the LT..... Lester has a LT hit of $25 million currently. He’s owed $20 million this year and has a $10 mil buyout/$25 mil option next year. Could we sign him to like 2/35 so his LT hit comes down ~$8 million? Lester probably thinks that with Rossy running the show, h...

Re: The Cardinals

Yeah I unfortunately don't see too many places where the Cubs would blow that out of the water. The outfield in total lines up pretty closely, just give Schwarber the 2.4, Heyward the 1.3, and Happ (with Almora dragging him down) the 0.9. 13.8 from the infield should be mostly covered by Baez/Bryant...

Re: NBA 2019-20 Season Thread

It's obviously a much different game overall than when Blake came into the league, but Zion's ability to shoot is a big advantage that took Blake years to add to his game (he had 7 total three pointers in his rookie, 82 game season). Granted, everyone is shooting threes now, but Zion is a little dif...

Re: TV thread

I finished the 3rd season of Goliath on Prime last night. I really liked the first 2 seasons and this one was fine, but man were there a lot of weird, time filling psychedelic detours that really didn't add much to the story. Season one seemed to hit the sweet spot between what I usually like watch...

lol Look, I know Biden goes up there and talks about having a GOP running mate and other nonsense, but I actually think when it comes to it, party will make sure he has something of a reconciliation candidate like they did with the DNC chair. May not be quite that far, but I do believe it's someone...

Not supporting him is different than the stunt Hillary just pulled, and what Obama seems to be threatening through his surrogates. Dude, we're not cracking any code here: the Democrats flat out don't want him to get the nomination. We don't need to read the tea leaves to try and figure this out. Th...

Re: 2019-20 Offseason Rumors/General Chit-Chat

I'll say this, but I really hate saying it...If they've only got a couple million to spend, we're probably better off adding to the bullpen than upgrading from Almora to Pillar. But I really wish we had non-tendered Almora and invested his $1.8M elsewhere. I think there are a variety of AAAA guys a...
