Re: Politics & Current Events

Lol at anyone believing this might “take Trump down.” There is already a tape of him bragging about sexual assault and this country cares way more about its white women than it does black people. The only thing that might take Trump down before January 2021 is years of eating Filet O FIsh. How's th...

Re: This is the thread where we talk about how awesome Kris Bryant is

it's kind of worrying that the only remedy we've heard suggested so far is for him to not play baseball. i'd almost feel better if they just said he's going to have surgery in the offseason. Different body part but did Zobrist have any sort of surgery on his wrist in the offseason. He was dealing w...

Re: General Cubs Chit-Chat

Any lists of available catchers. I saw some would-be 2019 FA Catchers. The only ones that seem even remotely interesting are all on teams still in the hunt. Would probably need to swing a trade. Devin Mesoraca Josh Thole Brayan pena Drew Butera Wouldn't mind seeing a weak-hitting defensive-minded C...

Re: General Cubs Chit-Chat

It'd be nice to see the Cubs make a move for a veteran catcher they can trust. It's clear they don't think much of Caratini (nor has he done much this year), and Gimenez basically talked his way off the team. But it's pretty clear Contreras has been struggling for a while now, and the simplest expla...

Re: This is the thread where we talk about how awesome Kris Bryant is

670 The Score @670TheScore Joe Maddon doesn't expect that Kris Bryant will get back to 100 percent this season; the #Cubs' goal is for his shoulder ailment to be 'manageable' (link: https://bit.ly/2BaWZJ2) bit.ly/2BaWZJ2 Soooo back to right handed Jason Heyward then? He had a horrid June (lack of p...

Re: How much is 1 WAR worth?

Yeah, I posted that and then looked at the Fangraphs odds, which is weirdly down on the Red Sox. Has them playing the rest of the year at a .585 clip, which is way below the Astros (.635), Indians (.632), Yankees (.626), and Dodgers (.597). Have them essentially on par with the Nationals (.581). We'...

Re: How much is 1 WAR worth?

We're going to make the playoffs (which a majority of teams don't), and we're probably going to lose in the playoffs, because that's what most teams do. The Red Sox might be the best team in history, and I'd give them like a 20% chance to win, and definitely less than 50% to make it to the World Ser...

Re: How much is 1 WAR worth?

There's far more evidence that says we should be start playing better than there is for pretty much every other team we'd have to worry about. That seems to be a more debatable point now that the season is hinged on critical injuries and a truly terrible starting rotation. You could also use those ...

Re: How much is 1 WAR worth?

there is no guarantee to even make the playoffs...i get that no one in the NL is very good but at the same time if a couple of teams get hot the Cubs can quickly go from the top to the outside looking in I get the 'anything can happen' mentality, and trust me, I'd much rather be 15 games up. But ri...

Re: How much is 1 WAR worth?

This is probably getting too cute in trying to figure out what happened to Lester, but I feel like there were at least 5-7 starts he made in April/May/June where he had to follow Chatwood (who was sometimes following Darvish during his four innings a start stretch) and he took the mound knowing the ...

Re: General Baseball Chit-Chat Thread

Dexter fractured his left foot tonight. So I just saw that. Geez, this year just sucks for him. Probably done for the season. I hope he gets traded somewhere nice where he doesn't have to hear about his "lack of hustle" and all this other nonsensical crap. His bones lack integrity I would...

If Washington comes back and wins the division, a 20 game winner Max Scherzer would probably get a lot of momentum.

Re: Baez impresses Baez

I feel like Javy has spit on more pitches out of the zone than in the past or maybe just completely unhittable pitches. Don’t know if that’s perception or reality. Getting himself in better counts all year. He’s had his share of Old school Javy at bats but not as often. Career high in O-zone (outsi...

Re: Regular Season Rumors

“Bring in a bunch of pitchers and see who sticks” is the plan you talk yourself into when you can’t get good pitchers for whatever reason. Maybe. But I don't blame them for going this route when I don't think they had a lot to offer other teams in trades without getting into MLB depth. You have 6 s...

Re: Regular Season Rumors

Thanks everyone for the Ziegler explanations. Ground ball rate is very attractive, but he's getting hit hard this year.

Either way, I woke up looking forward to a Bryce Harper trade, and now we're on like hour 2 of the Brad horsefeathering Ziegler watch. Someone needs to do something cool here.

Re: THE Bryce Harper in 2018 Thread

Per FG, Brewers are projected for 88 wins, and the Diamondbacks are at 86 for the two wildcard spots. Nationals at 52-53 currently would have to go 34-23, or play at a .596 clip the rest of the year. And that's ignoring the Braves, Cardinals, Pirates, and Rockies. The FG projections still really lik...
