Re: Cubs get their speedy playoff pinch runner guy

Including the playoffs, he's 0-for-11 with 16 runs scored and 25 stolen bases. Maybe he gets a couple at bats in September but that doesn't really matter. Having a speedy threat on the bases will be a nice luxury in the playoffs. if you include minors (which, yeah, it's easier to steal there) he's ...

Re: Bears 2018 Offseason: Matt Nagy Hired as Head Coach

Somewhat of a refreshing take. I hate the sentiment that a rookie has to "earn it". You drafted him 8th. Everyone in that lockerroom knows he's a potential stud. Play him. Play Daniels and Miller while you're at it too. Go back in time and start Trubisky Week 1 last year. Oh I'm thinking ...

Re: Baez impresses Baez

I'm seeing 5.1 vs 4.7. Regardless, WAR has standard margin of error - any derived statistical indicator has one. Lowest suggestion I've seen is 15% and I believe the highest I've seen suggested is 2 WAR per year. So .4 is absolutely meaningless; even at the lower 15% the .8 would be borderline. Now...

Their WAR difference is .4 - that is pretty meaningless.

while i wouldn't say half a win is meaningless, it's actually a difference of .8

Re: How much is 1 WAR worth?

Yeah, I posted that and then looked at the Fangraphs odds, which is weirdly down on the Red Sox. Has them playing the rest of the year at a .585 clip, which is way below the Astros (.635), Indians (.632), Yankees (.626), and Dodgers (.597). Have them essentially on par with the Nationals (.581). We...

Re: How much is 1 WAR worth?

We're going to make the playoffs (which a majority of teams don't), and we're probably going to lose in the playoffs, because that's what most teams do. The Red Sox might be the best team in history, and I'd give them like a 20% chance to win , and definitely less than 50% to make it to the World S...

Re: How much is 1 WAR worth?

You could also use those words to describe Milwaukee. I'll take the 2 game lead and the superior talent elsewhere. I really don't care about Milwaukee; when I saw "the season" I'm talking about the end result in the playoffs, not whether or not they make it. This is kind of the point here...

Re: This is the thread where we talk about how awesome Kris Bryant is

There's no "really bad" news coming on this. Theo already said last week that most of the pain has been successfully treated and is only being felt at the extreme ends of his range of motion. Worst case IMO is something like they'll say horsefeathers it and he'll play the last few weeks +...

well, harper has been on average about a 5.3 win player per full season of his career, so 70% of that would be a 3.7 win player which is pretty good

Re: Baez impresses Baez

Man, I really miss watching Manny Ramirez hit. Ah, I miss watching Ken Griffey Jr. (in his prime) hit, but what's the point in mentioning it lol. Also, Ichiro when he first came over was something else. Manny was a great hitter, but I never felt that awe-inspired watching him hit. manny was a goofy...

Re: Cubs trade Eloy, Cease, others for Quintana

I'm not too worried about losing Eloy. Even with him destroying AAA it's doubtful that he's much more than Schwarber. Maybe we chose the wrong arm to cash him in for, but using him to shore up the rotation was absolutely the right move. Cease is looking more and more likely to actually be something...
