Re: The Bryce is Right, Bitch

I really don’t understand hating the Ricketts. Like, aren’t we supposed to want the monopoly guy to own our team AND also be a fan who wants the team to win AND is smart enough to hire smart baseball people to be the ones to decide how to spend his money? Not sure what more you could want in an own...

Fun with pitching stats

I remember doing this after the heartbreaking 1984 season. I thought the Cubs could be even better by having a healthy Dick Ruthven in 1985. I figure Ruthven was probably a Joe Blanton-type pitcher. Ah the spirit of youth. In 2018 Lester, Hendricks and Quintana made all their starts. Hamels-Chatwood...

Well I have a relationship with Bryan Price, so that would be cool for me.

Another opportunity to marvel at how much better the Brewers' off season was compared to ours.

Re: It’s not me, it’s Yu

Even if he would have had TJS two months ago he would not have helped much next year. So he'll be penciled in for 2020 and that's that. Not his first rodeo, but pretty fast turnaround for number two.

The Cubs will trade Maples for a Tommy Hunter-type from a lousy team.

Re: 2018 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

No Luke Heimlich through two days. Honestly, I'll consider this whole draft a win as long as we don't pick him. The Cubs don't need the bad publicity, but I wonder on a more societal level whether he should forever be barred based on a teenage mistake (his claims of innocence not withstanding). The...

Re: Darvish to Cubs, 6/$126 Million + Incentives

Theo is so great. He said Darvish was the number one priority going into the off-season. Which of us thought that? We all figured on Cobb, I suppose. And when Chatwood signed it made Cobb seem redundant in that they are both "4s". I never thought it could be a setup for Darvish. I figured ...

Re: The Yu Darvish Thread

Here's an outside the box idea.... If Darvish/Dodgers really want to get back together, tell the Dodgers we'll take Kemp and Ryu all their salary but we need Walker Buehler to do that, throw in a prospect or something going back if needed. They are essentially trading Ryu/Kemp/Buehler for Darvish. ...

Re: The Yu Darvish Thread

"Good value for a team" right now is hugely hinged on shorting players via their decreasing share of the game's profits. Yeah, we are talking about millionaires vs. billionaires, but it's also still employees vs. owners, too. The flashy, appealing explanation is that this all because team...

Re: The Yu Darvish Thread

It's not "siding." It's understanding someone else's position. No. It’s years of propaganda. All fans should side with the workers. I don't know that it's necessarily propaganda, as much as it is that sports fans have a feeling of "ownership" in their team. Players come and go, ...

I trust Theo. Heaven forbid, I wouldn't want to anybody to think I didn't. I now know how our grandparents felt about FDR. I just mean I trust Theo to do whats in the best interest of the Club. It sounds like Theo gauged the market for Darvish pretty well so if they lose him to another team, it's c...

Re: The Yu Darvish Thread

I get the sense that Darvish doesn't want to play for the Cubs because of lifestyle issues like weather and distance. For a strictly baseball purpose, who wouldn't want to pitch for these Cubs!? In that light, NO WAY does he go to the Brewers. I suspect when it is all said and done he ends up with t...
