Re: General Baseball Chit-Chat Thread

It wouldn’t really affect balls in play, but I do kind of hate shifting. Makes the game more boring and seems like it could be a very simple fix. Just say 3B/SS can’t begin the play right of the 2B bag, 2B can’t begin to the left. And maybe I just feel this way because the Cubs don’t shift as much ...

Re: "horsefeathers looks like The Thing" - The Kyle Schwarber Thread

Saw this article earlier today about Schwarber's defense. Also makes reference to Harper's defense this year, or lack of. Link to Cubs.com Article Quickly, what do those numbers say? Well, Baseball Reference ranks Schwarber five runs above average. John Dewan, who has been studying defense forever,...

Re: General Baseball Chit-Chat Thread

My order of preference would be... 1. Both leagues use no DH. 2. Both leagues use some sort of compromise rule like a “designated pinch hitter” who could bat three times in a game without the player he’s batting for having to come out. 3. Both leagues use the DH (Big space.) 4. Things stay the same...

Re: General Cubs Chit-Chat

Random thought...I remember in the winter there was some talk from the Red Sox that Chili Davis had something to do with the team’s poor power numbers but dismissed it as stupid. But now more than 1/3 into the season I see this Boston HR 2017: 27 out of 30 HR 2018: 2 out of 30 SLG 2017: .407 SLG 20...

Re: It’s not me, it’s Yu

"about" 31 pitches seems oddly specific almost like you counted exactly to 31 horsefeathering pitches, Carrie. I thought the same thing. Margin of error: 10 pitches. That one was awful. only counts as .75 pitches. If you’re not sure you counted right, “about 30” is pretty safe and doesn’t...

I feel like Schwarber’s offense is getting lost in the discussion of his defense and Javy’s offense. He’s been ridiculously productive. Bryantesque level.

Re: Albert Almora: Somehow a slow Grady Sizemore?

I'm assuming he's going to be one of those turds who has an unsustainable stat line for awhile, but if I join the "he's gonna suck" bandwagon, he'll start developing real skills at the exact same rate the fake skills regress to the mean and he continues to be a valuable player regardless....

Re: Albert Almora: Somehow a slow Grady Sizemore?

I really like Almora. I feel like the switch flipped against RHP in August of last year, and through ~3 months of play he hasn't really gone backwards yet, so it's looking more and more likely those gains are real. The BABIP will come down but even still something like .290/.340/.450 with legit def...

Re: General Cubs Chit-Chat

Based on our pythag record, we’ve played like a 109 win team this year (29-15 pythag record). That’s pretty good considering until recently our starters had a negative WAR for the season. Blasting the Marlins twice, the White Sox once and the Reds three times in the span of two weeks will certainly...

Heck, if I'm being fair ... I'm not so sure the Cubs future is necessarily better than the Nationals. I really love Soto, and a core of Soto/Robles/Turner/Rendon plus Scherzer/Strasburg in the short term, and an ownership that you know will spend ... is very, very tantalizing. Sure, KB/Rizzo/Contre...

This **might** have been relevant two weeks ago. But since then he’s gone on a tear.

OPS in Mar/Apr. .448
OPS in May 1.143

BABIP has gone from .172 to .286.

No need to update. Update is in: he’s fine. He’s always been fine. He will always be fine.

Also, we already have a rizzo thread.
