Re: Addison Russell

“One of his favorite excuses was that he was young”

Are we talking about temper and abuse or his baseball career? Chapman was still abusive at 27, and Addy was only, what, 22 at the time. Still tons of time for him to develop.

Less than Zero. Why is this even a conversation?

Because two years removed from a World Series championship we're so spoiled that being about to win a 3rd straight division championship, with a team that has dealt with a huge number of injuries, is insufficient.

I like being spoiled.

Also he hasn’t ended a game with a higher season OPS than when he started since mid-August which is pretty tough to do when it’s in the mid-600s

Let's stop and admire (read:vomit) how hard this is to do.

Re: General Cubs Chit-Chat

Wasn't Theo the one that immediately dumped him after taking over with the Cubs? Two months later, but from what I'm posting below there was no saving Z as a Cub. On August 12, 2011, against the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field, Zambrano allowed five home runs. After the fifth home run he allowed, he...

Re: [poll] Who should start the WC game?

I would start Chatsuck. "Why", you ask. Here's my strategy. Use Chatsuck and let him make one pitch. Worse case scenario, you're down 1-0 (Cubs clearly don't score in the first or are the home team). Reality is, the ball isn't anywhere near close to the hitting zone. So most likely, the c...

Good thing we didn't get Ohtani and went with the safe bet for our big offseason starting pitching splash.

Re: The way too early, but I'm bored, Off-season Options Thread

I was assuming the dude was right talking about Tom's crazy hodgepodge approach to "streamlining the team" via trades or whatever the horsefeathers that was immediately preceding his post. Because if he's talking about not signing someone like Harper if they can, well, that's just bonkers...

I think the "if it aint broke dont fix it" plan looks fine now Literally nobody here is saying that. Even I wasn't saying that when I posted it. Even I said that not losing draft picks is a secondary priority to adding a generational talent. I feel like Harper was pretty heavily implied. ...

Re: The way too early, but I'm bored, Off-season Options Thread

I agree with the “if it ain’t broke” sentiment. I don’t see a need for sweeping changes. If you can upgrade quality cheaply (in terms of assets not necessarily cash) do it. Trying not to give up draft picks is a priority (a secondary priority to adding a generational talent). I think it’s hilarious ...

He's great, but wrong. Dead wrong.

3-6-1 DP over a 3-6-3 any day of the week. Love to see the pitcher fielding his position and screaming at him when he doesn't get off the mound fast enough.

Re: homophobe (Daniel Murphy), incoming (to the Cubs)

I think about half assuming Bote keeps it up (quite an assumption, I know) That's half-ish vs righties. and most all vs. lefties. (plus days Bryant rests, Bote moves back to 3B) He's already down to 750 OPS against RHP for the season and pretty weak overall in the second half while Murphy is 830 vs...

Re: homophobe (Daniel Murphy), incoming (to the Cubs)

I don't think there will be many games with a righty on the mound and Bote starting with Murphy sitting. I think about half assuming Bote keeps it up (quite an assumption, I know) When Bryant returns, Bryant (as often as he's able), Heyward, Rizzo and Baez start everyday. That means you have 3 spot...

Wait. Some of you think Daniel Murphy is going to be a bench player? I think he starts until Bryant returns (assuming Bryant is not actually dead). Then, I think Bote starts ahead of him, unless or until Bote is found out to not be an actual god. I don't think there will be many games with a righty...

Re: homophobe (Daniel Murphy), incoming (to the Cubs)

i'm kind of confused about the people not wanting murphy for baseball reasons. i didn't want him because he's a scumlord, but baseball wise this is a huge gift There are other players I would prefer, namely players that don't play 2B (poorly), but you can't argue with the price. Worst case isn't he...
