Re: ChiCargo Cubs - AKA that bad man can't hurt you anymore

I was sure he'd be awful when the man in charge told coaches not to coach him because his swing was already perfect. I believed until they moved him off third base. I don't know that Mueller really fits into the discussion because he was actually good. Which is probably why the Cubs traded him (wit...

Re: ChiCargo Cubs - AKA that bad man can't hurt you anymore

Ron Coomer, Tyler Houston, Bill Mueller. It all changed with that wonderful man named Aramis I’m pretty sure Houston was mainly a catcher though, right? Mueller was good but had that nasty knee injury. Tyler Houston came up as a catcher but the Cubs played him at 3rd as part of their "Let's tr...

Re: ChiCargo Cubs - AKA that bad man can't hurt you anymore

Same. If someone told me Steve Buechele played 3B for the Cubs for a decade, I probably wouldn't even blink. I know what you mean but if it really was Buechele for 10 years that doesn't check out with the Cubs trying literally everyone they could think of at 3rd. For example, Delino DeShields and s...

Re: ChiCargo Cubs - AKA that bad man can't hurt you anymore

Leo Gomez goes into that large, faceless pile of "people who played 3b at some point for the Cubs" with no differentiating traits. Honestly you could take any Hispanic-sounding male name and tell me they played 3b for the Cubs in the 80s or early 90s and my brain would say "oh yeah, ...

Re: General Chit-Chat thread

Out of 70 students, I had 15 that took the AP test this year. Many students take AP classes to bolster their GPA and also for social reasons. Students that would normally be in an honors class take AP which makes the Honors classes more watered down. In which case, it's better to be in an AP class a...

Re: General Chit-Chat thread

They're changing the registration deadline for AP tests from March to October. So instead of having students take the class for 5 months before deciding they want to take the test they will have 6 weeks. The idea is that if students commit earlier to taking the test they will take the class more ser...

Re: Movie Thread 2: The Sequel

Man, the last thing the world needs are more pointless boring music biopics. These types of movies SHOULD be musicals. I wasn't looking for Cop Rock 2: The Elton John Story. I was hoping for a movie about Elton John loaded with plenty of his amazing songs. If you want the story of his life wait 'ti...

Did anyone watch Catch 22? It started out strong but I was disappointed with stuff that they decided to leave out. Not sure why they made it 6 episodes. I do want to reread the book.

Here is an article where they get to guy who did Battlestar to explain why its the fans who suck, and not B&W. https://slate.com/culture/2019/05/game-of-thrones-finale-backlash-battlestar-galactica-showrunner-interview.html That was a good read. I kind of hated it, myself. I never got into Batt...

Re: TV Finales

Surprised nobody brought it up yet but what did everyone think about the Big Bang Theory season finale? Definitely a show that's right up the alley of a lot of posters here. Don't watch it and as I recall, the general consensus around here is that it's pretty terrible. I'll admit that I have sort o...

Re: TV Finales

I remember somewhere reading an article where they said that shows that have a definitive ending with lots of closure don't do as well in syndication. This was kind of a long time ago and I'm not sure if that still applies given the success of shows like Friends on Netflix. I think the list of bad s...

Re: Food Monstrosities

I was in Louisville recently and we had "Louisville Style" Pizza. I asked what that meant and the server said "Thin crust with lots of toppings". It was ok, I guess.
