Re: Fred Hornkohl (1951-2016): Please share your stories/pics

My wife asked me why I was so sad last night and I told her that a good friend had passed away. After some hugs and nice words, she asked me who it was. When I said Fred's name, she was a bit confused at first because she didn't know the name and yet I was obviously upset because it was someone clo...

Re: 2016 Magic Number Thread

 HoJo was at my little league awards banquet for some reason so I have his autograph on my trophy Man, the early 90s Cubs had some [expletive] free agent signings. HoJo, Danny Jackson, Kal Daniels, Dave Smith, George Bell (until he turned into Sosa), etc... Good lord, 90-97 Cubs were trash. Kal...

If it was up to me, he would be there.

They'll justify it with veteran BS but it's more about keeping a rectum at peace.

Re: Rotation thread

I also like the idea of a 6 man rotation from here on out. I would probably set a 75-85 PC on them in September.

Also, get Zobrist (espec. him), Rizzo, Russell, and Bryant some extra rest as well.

Re: Rotation thread

I would guess 1-4 will be...

Arrieta
Lester
Lackey
Hendricks

Obviously depends on Lackey's shoulder from here on out.

Re: Draft Teix

Here's a quick and dirty illustration, 2000-2009 Top 5 picks(to give them time to reach MLB and contribute). Hitters: 25 Pitchers: 25 Hitters with 10 career bWAR: 12 Pitchers with 10 bWAR: 5 That will change to 14 to 5 soon because Moustakas and Hosmer are both north of 9.5 bWAR too(no pitchers are...

Re: Draft Teix

The reason why I bring up Strasburg and my disbelief of the absolute of not taking a collegiate pitcher is that had you drafted Ackley (#2 consensus pick) ahead of him, your principal would have caused the wrong pick. Ill take my chances of selecting the BPA regardless if it is a collegiate pitcher ...

You can make a case for Verlander as well who might have gone 1 instead of 2 had he not pitched in the CAA.

that bats aren't a better bet to succeed. I just think it's been extrapolated to some goofily extreme levels by some here. Re: Draft Teix

Well, yeah, arguing it from a standpoint of what actually happened, it's silly to pick Prior. From a standpoint of ipicking either without knowing what would happen, you can easily make a good argument either way. Personally, I still go with Prior. you can make a wonderful argument for drafting Mar...

It took one thing, hiring Dusty Baker.

Also him being a pitcher.

And a collision with Marcus Giles.

Don't forget about Hawpe.

Re: Draft Teix

What is this nonsense Logic. Prior>Teixiera in 2001 had a higher ceiling based on OFP As previously mentioned, Prior had a bad combo of Baker, fluke injuries and mistaken perfect mechanics If there's a similar situation where there is two draftees with very high ratings *once in a decade* with the ...

Re: Draft Teix

That is not really what hindsight means. Also, I'm pretty close to personally believing that you should never ever draft a pitcher in the Top 5, and probably not in the Top 10. BigRedSun/stitchface was likely referring to an old ESPN debate which I was on the wrong side of the argument having suppo...

Mark Teixeira to retire. Was he the better choice? In hindsight? No. If a similar situation happens again, I would still go for the pitcher. What is this nonsense Logic. i'm just amazed the republicans are [expletive] the bed this badly. winning the presidency this year should have been the layup of the century. Why is that? I know early general election polls don't mean much, but she was favored against all of the potential GOP candidates. I'm not sure how early y...

https://twitter.com/BuzzFeedAndrew/status/760852474420981760 This has worked out so well previously. What does the GOP do once he gives them the middle finger? hah, first look at who nehlen is and he's running because Ryan won't support the "muslim pause" on immigration and won't fund the wall. awesome He's a buffoon but (although slim to none) if he could beat Ryan, Nehlen loses to a democrat & it eliminates one of the GOPs leaders and one ...

Re: Politics & Current Events

It's hard to maintain an impersonation of Stephen Colbert impersonating a republican this long. He has to be exhausted keeping up this act. It's tough to determine whether this was a publicity stunt gone wrong used to build his brand (ironically successful) or a sociopath who would say anything. Ei...

Re: Politics & Current Events

The Chris Wallace interview on Sunday, receiving 4 pinocciahos saying that Coney said she told the truth even though he never came close to saying that as well as denying sending classified email. It was severely overshadowed by Trump going after a gold star family. She did poorly in that interview.
