Re: Martin Maldonado to Cubs

I’m calling BS on this rumor. I think it’s idiots making idiotic guesses. Theo lamented with no waiver trades how he wanted to build out depth, especially at C. It’s far more likely Vic is sent down or they go with 3 catchers on the roster until Sept 1 than move Maldonado. Yeah, this one confuses m...

Re: Martin Maldonado to Cubs

Coolcoolcool The Cubs acquired catcher Martin Maldonado from the Royals just two weeks ago, though Chicago is already exploring the possibility of flipping Maldonado elsewhere, The Athletic’s Robert Murray reports (subscription required). The veteran backstop “has been marketed in trade discussions...

Re: Trade targets 2019

I like Castellanos, liked him more as an offseason move before not collusion led to no Harper, but yeah he would be a solid move. In that sense, him getting hurt just before the deadline sucks. OTOH, hopefully this forces this FO to do something more clever and possibly even long term. Oh and trade...

Re: Cubs go Dutch with Giants, acquire Holland

Man, my respect for Descalso has gone way up. Kid has been fighting an ankle injury for months now, but tried to tough it out until it got to be too much.

Glad he finally said something.

I always miss these blowups. Link? Re: Addison Russell

Victim/accuser testimony is evidence. Yet he got 40 games counting when he was on leave during the investigation. Herrera got 109 counting the time he was on leave, Torres got 100 and Osuna got 75 so why did Russell get just 40? Because he's lucky enough to be employed by a scumbag org. I was think...

Re: Happ is Back

The price reflected the risk, the rest of the FA RP market sucked or was overpriced (Davis, who will still got a pick for losing) he at least was really good for the 40 innings or whatever we had him for last year. 35 appearances and 22 saves. No sign he’s coming back this year. I guess it’s par fo...

Re: Happ is Back

Curious to see the roster machinations over the next week between this and what seems likely to be multiple trades. Descalso is an easy casualty, but beyond that do we just see some combo of Vic/Robel/Almora/Bote sent to Iowa, or do we see someone(s) like Schwarber sent out via trade. I legit think...

On a good note, Tom Ricketts' mom gave an anti-Trump campaign $3 million back in 2016.

But, of course, then Trump threatened the family.

Re: Trade targets 2019

I'm not sure of their overall career numbers, but Greene is like a Justin Wilson to me. All over the place in terms of effectiveness. Not a consistent track record. Could totally bomb his last 30 innings as he did do great his first 30.

However, I don't know enough to really be writing about this.

Re: Trade targets 2019

Dyson is basically a LF hitting Almora (actually slightly worse statistically). A singularly unappealing option. For the last two months of the season, though, I'd rather have the speedy guy with a .335 OBP than the slow guy with a .275 OBP. Dyson also serves as the base stealer Theo often adds for...

Anything that gets Almora out of the lineup on a consistent basis is not pointless. Just imagine that first slow grounder to third base, and instead of Almora getting thrown out by three feet, Dyson is already five feet past it. That's what speed do.

Re: Trade targets 2019

I don't see "intense love" for Castellanos. I see an acknowledgement that in a seller's market with very few options, he may be the best realistic one. If you're going to deal you do it with the assumption you have to at least try and beat the Dodgers in a 7-game series, as unlikely as th...

I mean, I'd love to unload junk on Baltimore. Let's just offer Russell and some of our AAA arms for Givens and Villar and see what happens. I don't get the intense love for Castellanos. He's an OK bat and a terrible fielder and he'd be a rental. I don't see "intense love" for Castellanos....
