Re: Offseason Transactions

Stanton to the Cards has some big implications, but a ton of hurdles. He's obviously a huge offensive force and a huge contract, not to mention he will likely be limited defensively in the latter years of his contract. It's definitely an interesting risk/reward. But the team I'm actually scared of s...

Re: The Mock Off Season Thread

Here's another mock offseason to chew on. I'll caveat this as it wouldn't necessarily be what I'd do. Sign Alex Cobb 4 years/$56 million Sign Wade Miley 1 year/$8 million Trade Ian Happ and Victor Caratini for Roberto Osuna and Thomas Pannone Sign Rene Rivera 1 year/$4 million Sign Alain Tamayo 5 ye...

Re: The Mock Off Season Thread

Since Cobb has a decent chance of being brought in and Chatwood, Miley, Chacin all available as BOR fliers, I’d be interested in seeing Happ used to bring in late inning pen arms. If possible, JA Happ would be excellent as well, but Osuna is interesting from Toronto. Does Ian Happ for Roberto Osuna ...

Re: Christian Yelich

More trade offer ideas! Almora, Zagunis, Clifton for Yelich, Chen, and Ramos, taking on all of Chen's contract. Too little? I think that’s in the ballpark, if they really are that poor/desperate to lower payroll. I like that framework. Ramos was traded to the Mets so we'd probably have to take Zieg...

Re: Chris Bosio Fired

There has been a lot of talk that they were replacing Bosio because of the Thames suspension or just to bring in Hickey, but this is the first thing I thought of when I heard the news. https://www.google.com/amp/www.nbcsports.com/chicago/chicago-cubs/jon-lester-and-chris-bosio-have-confrontation-cub...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 9-10-17

Little's second is going swimmingly. BB, K, BB, K, 2-un triple, groundout. 2 IP, 1 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 4 K, 1-1 GO-FO, 50-26 pitches-strikes Had the good fortune to sit about right behind home plate last night in the 2nd row. Much like the final line shows, Little was incredibly inconsistent. His mechan...

Re: 2017 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

As for the Cubs draft, it'll be interesting to see if anything changed today. If Lange was set for slot, the savings would then have allowed the Cubs to offer slightly over 400K to a guy today.... I'd be thrilled to get Meredith, although he had wanted 700k, I think. Doubt Ruth would take that eith...

Re: 2017 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

If there's an issue with his arm, I'd rather just take the comp pick next year and try again on somebody healthy. I hope it doesn't kill off Velázquez and Estrada as well. That's a big chunk of draft talent. Velazquez has already signed so they made that work without Lange. Can't see Estrada coming...

Re: International Thread 2015-2016

Don't believe this has been mentioned yet, but the Cubs are the favorites to sign one of the MLB.com's top 30 international prospects, SS Luis Verdugo. Not a huge surprise to see he's from Mexico and rankings for 16 year olds always need to be taken with a grain of salt, but nice to see the Cubs the...

Re: Cubs offseason thread

I like Dewees, I'll be interested in seeing what he becomes. Can anyone tell me a little about Mills? From Stat scouting he definitely controls the strikezone but I don't know much about his stuff. Cubs must have been really down on Dewees. Mills wasn't a top 15 guy in their system, a bottom tier s...

Re: Cubs offseason thread

If Jose Rosario's stuff is anywhere near as good, next year, as some of the reports that have come out about him, I'd be a bit surprised if he can't find a way to sneak onto the late inning bullpen mix. If that slider is steady ... and he's hitting triple digits ... Hard pressed for me to buy Corey...

Re: Mock Offseason Thread

With the solid relationship between this front office and Billy Beane, I have been thinking a lot about the potential for a deal centered around Candelario for Doolittle. It just feels like the type of deal this FO is looking into as it provides affordable stability from the left-hand side, while al...

Re: 2016 Trade Deadline

Any chance there's a move to made for a deal structured along the lines of Soler, Haap for Blackmon, Jon Gray? LHH OF who can back up all three positions and is under control for a couple seasons and a cost controlled SP that would benefit from the move from Coors (not to mention I'd love for him to...

Re: Cubs Picks Thread

Thanks, Dave, very helpful post. I've kind of been wondering where the overage and where the under slot savings are going to go, with Cruz coming in cheap, both 8 and 9 likely to be very cheap, and even with our small pool there is still some overage available. So, where's it going to go? Maybe the...

Encouraging projection for Mekkes from Fangraphs 314. Dakota Mekkes, RHP, Chicago (NL) Proj. WAR thru age-27: 3.8 Mekkes is KATOH’s favorite player in the draft.
