Re: 2021 Draft Thread

https://twitter.com/BaseballAmerica/status/1376882958691414018?s=20 I don’t subscribe but think I saw he was mocked 25th to Oakland? I would hope the Cubs at 21 don’t let that happen The mocked Joe Mack to the Cubs at 21. I prefer Ford to Mack, but both are prep catchers with significant upside. I ...

It also makes it even more encouraging that DJ Herz learned his curveball from Chris Clarke....

Re: Are we getting Black Monday II? Bears offseason thread

Pace cleaned up a disastrous roster and made it pretty good. For a team with terrible QB play, they've won a lot of games. I do not think it is obvious he is terrible. I think he's obviously competent with some major shortcomings. But as I mentioned before, the guy doesn't hesitate to move on from ...

Re: Minor League Musings

Thanks for that Tom. That’s interesting. I guess Max Bain has some seam shifted wake on his cutter (and not a 2-seam/sinker). He gave the go ahead that I could share. He’s just such an intriguing guy this year. If anyone is really interested in Max, Bryan Smith is doing more of a deep dive on him so...

Re: Minor League Musings

Sounds like MLB Pipeline is joining Keith Law (8th) and BA (25th) in listing Yohendrick Pinango ("around the middle of the list") as a Top 30 Cubs prospect when the list releases in a couple of weeks. They're doing it by division and the NL Central comes out last apparently.

Re: Minor League Musings

https://twitter.com/LoganWhaleyMLB/status/1365135898363404288?s=20 I don't think the Cubs have 30 prospects better than Weber :dontknow: Dorey reported that he's gotten stronger. Can't hit HR without some strength, but can't hit HR's without hitting the ball, either. Obviously he'll need to hit mor...

Thanks for merging. Yours was better!
I do wonder if this also allows the Cubs to only carry one lefty if they wanted to.
I’d still prefer one of Wieck or Steele to force their way on.

Re: Minor League Musings

It fits with the timeline, but it appears that April 1st is the report date for the minor league players not already in big league camp. AA and A+/A games start May 4th. So it'll be a quick turnaround. I don't know how they could have realistically done any different with the big league players the...

https://twitter.com/pgammo/status/1364720806002126862?s=21 Wow That surprises me, but it is so fascinating that it’s Gammons who wrote this. He’s so connected with Theo Epstein that I’m legitimately curious if it was Theo that mentioned that. It’s still hard for me to believe this, but Gammons isn’...

Re: Minor League Musings

The author asked Basham if Jensen's new curve was a spike. Basham kinda said yes, but said that jensen throws everything with so much power that distinguishing spike from normal curve may not be relevant. Either way, it sounds like it's got the hard movement. (And perhaps with that the challenge in...

Re: 2020-21 Offseason Top Prospects Lists

If you wanted a "proof of concept" to developing a pitcher with a wildness problem, maybe Riley Thompson? He sported a 6.8 BB/inning in his last season in college. Since with the Cubs, he's halved that. A walk rate like that would make Dillon Maples seem like Bob Tewksbury! Per 9 IP... Ha...

.... People seem to really like Ben Leeper. I’ll be curious if the optimism is more about the relative value of getting a reliever who could make the majors out of an UDFA signing or if it’s about true late-inning reliever level talent. ... Re: 2020-21 Offseason Top Prospects Lists

Another thing the 2018 shift toward upside and the technological overhaul did was give the Cubs a much better chance of generating a solid bullpen on the cheap. Not only has the pitching lab unearthed players like Wick and helped the Cubs backfill with cheap but effective signings like Jason Adam, ...

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread

The smart money is always to be disappointed by PTR, but a mid level FA or two wouldn't be that much of a surprise IMO. The problem is that PTR's definition of "a mid level FA" means somebody willing to sign a 1 year contract under $2 million. The dreaded 3/$15M is unimaginable I can’t im...

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread

If they move Bryant and Hendricks to Toronto we better be getting one or two of their legacies back. You can squint to understand why we got what we got for Darvish because of his contract, but Hendricks has no reason to be traded other than "Why keep a good player if we intend to suck while h...

Guessing based on their recent podcast that BA has Amaya just outside the Top 100.
