Re: 2020 MLB Actual Draft Day(s) Thread

I liked this exchange from a previous Fangraphs chat/discussion in the International Free Agency thread. Ed Howard or Cristian Hernandez among signable amateur HS aged SSs this year? Eric A Longenhagen: oooh, good one. man, that’s close. I’ll say Hernandez, more body projection. Howard is the better...

Re: 2020 MLB Actual Draft Day(s) Thread

Well I still don’t think the Kjerstad pick made sense, but now with Bitsko off the table, I’m curious what picks 30 and 39 are going to look like for BAL. Jared Kelley is still on board. I could see guys like Cade Horton or Carson Montgomery in the mix - both have commitments that could require big...

Re: 2020 MLB Actual Draft Day(s) Thread

I really like the pick. There are some people very high on Ed Howard. It’s not a typical year where the top prep SS is an uber prospect, but this is very intriguing. Honestly I’m thrilled it’s not a Cade Cavalli or Chris McMahon.

Whoa Boston!

Re: 2020 MLB Actual Draft Day(s) Thread

Sigh. Eric’s new mock. 16. Chicago Cubs – Patrick Bailey, C, North Carolina State As the draft approaches, Bailey is the one college hitter who appears to be slipping down the board, and I think a team with a track record of drafting safe college players will just take him. I also have the Cubs att...

Re: 2020 MLB Actual Draft Day(s) Thread

I just thought about putting together a mock for fun and discussion. Looking forward to tonight/tomorrow. Pick 16: Garrett Mitchell, OF It seems like this is a relatively common pick in mocks, most likely because it’s hard to place Mitchell and the Cubs look like they’re keeping things close to the ...

Re: 2020 Draft Thread

Just revisiting a few topics, especially with some position player information from Kantrovitz’s time with the Cardinals and A’s. A quick disclaimer, there’s countless data points to consider and a good amount is proprietary information. This isn’t any sort of method to “reverse-engineer” draft boar...

Re: 2020 Draft Thread

Great little race this year for top prep arm, Abel had me pretty convinced. I reeeeally wish Fulton stayed healthy since with my new perspective, he and Abel would be neck and neck I’m a little skittish with Kelley since there haven’t been glowing reports about his ability to spin a breaking ball. ...

Re: 2020 Draft Thread

BA: 16 Mick Abel Jesuit HS, Portland, Ore RHP Notes: We’ve had the Cubs linked to bats fairly consistently in our 2020 mock draft process, with names like Hassell, Soderstrom and Arizona’s Austin Wells pegged to this pick. Hassell and Soderstrom have both been picked above and Wells is now being ta...

Re: 2020 Draft Thread

The Cubs were mocked Garrett Crochet in a recent Prospect 365 article All things considered, this is a fantastic pick for the Cubs. College pitcher is the heavy assumption here, and—in my eyes—Crochet being available here is the difference in drafting the 11th-ranked prospect on my recently-released...

Emerson Hancock 2. Jared Shuster 3. Asa Lacy 4. Logan Allen 5. Nick Swiney Ben Hernandez is a local kid. ...

Re: 2020 Draft Thread

The A’s also drafted Garrett Mitchell in the 14th round in 2017. If he fell in this draft, I would not be surprised to see the Cubs take him. It was a lot to go through the pitchers so I'll look into position player trends later and combine those for a list of possible draft targets. Love it. Thank...

Re: 2020 Draft Thread

There's obviously no sports right now so forgive the length. I spoilered a lot of the longer discussions. The addition of Kantrovitz as the Cubs new scouting director adds another wrinkle to evaluating which players they may be prioritizing. I looked at the drafts when he was the scouting director f...

Law’s mock on The Athletic dropped today. 16. Chicago Cubs: Tanner Burns, RHP, Auburn The Cubs also have a new scouting director this year in Dan Kantrovitz, although I don’t think there’s a big change in direction coming just yet given how heavy this draft is on college pitching. That’s the second ...

I am also really interested in Hurts if the Bears were able to trade down and pick up a 3rd and 4th. I'm not really very experienced with evaluating football players, but I remember one of the knocks on Hurts is he's a "general accuracy" passer rather than "pinpoint accuracy". I ...

And the bullpen is likely to be Kimbrel Wick Ryan Jeffress Tepera Sadler Winkler Mills Of the bubble guys, sounds like Sadler and particularly Winkler are standing out the most. After reading MLB's list yesterday I'm really curious to see how the rotations play out in the lower levels: - Do any of Cruz/Gallardo/Estrada open the year in SB? - Do any of Jensen/McAvene/Clarke open the year in MB? - Whither Jose Albertos? - Was 5 dominant starts enough to show that Brailyn is ...

With all the SP injuries to the Yankees and Angels coupled with the inevitable move to get under the LT, I’d wonder what Q could bring back. It seems like we talked about it all offseason and the Cubs FO just didn’t get substantial offers to move anyone, but there’s a lot of urgency from teams. Jett...

Roederer's arm makes me think moved off CF/Billy McKinney type of future in the field. I mean sure hes gonna get stronger and hopefully that improves along with it but until that time comes, I'm just not that enthused about him. How valuable is he if he cant man CF? I'd imagine not very. I still th...
