Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 8-11-18

When Short earned the distinction last year of the batter at High-A whose hitting profile most resembled the sort with which Matt Carpenter and Daniel Murphy and Justin Turner have succeeded in the majors, it seemed like a positive indicator for his future, seeing as he complemented that high-conta...

Vlad Jr's season line entering tonight (he's 1/3 with a HR):

.407/.462/.678 with <10% K rate and 41 XBHs including 16 HRs through 315 PAs

His AAA slash line entering tonight:

.462/.571/.769 through 35 PAs

With tonight's included he has more HRs (3) than Ks (2) in AAA

It's hilarious this team has the best record in the NL with Bryant missing ~40 games so far.

Huma with his first AZL HR, one of those teenaged switch hitters playing up the middle they've piled up. 2 run shot drove in Jonathan Perlaza, another switch hitter, who had hit a double just before. Brennen Davis has less swing and miss and more aptitude offensively than I expected/is maybe typical...

Re: Cubs trade Eloy, Cease, others for Quintana

The one catch with Quintana's first five years is that most of them were in a completely different, pitcher friendly run environment. I think he's probably closer to the 4.03 FIP guy he is overall as a Cub, maybe somewhere between his career 3.60 and his 4.03 with the Cubs, than the 4.60 this year t...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 8-5-18

4 Ks in a row for Faustino before giving up his first hit in the third Finished with 7 Ks in 4.2. He's at 43.1 IP, 38 Ks, 3HRs, 38 Hs, 14 BBS, 17 Rs (16 ERs), should easily be in South Bend's 2019 rotation. Luis Vazquez is hitting below .200 and striking out more, though he still has strong Isos, so...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 8-4-18

Sometimes I'm not sure if you read the post you're responding to... That's essentially Jeremiah Estrada's velocity. I wouldn't call that common, but you're are welcome to. Estrada isn't an interesting prospect just because he has some velocity. It's not particularly hard to find a RH who can hit 95...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 8-4-18

Uh, there isn't a guy named Nunez pitching for either Cubs DSL team so I don't know who you're talking about. Eduarniel Nunez spent one season in the DSL and was promoted to the AZL Cubs this year. He was in ExST this year where AZ Phil commented on his velocity sitting low to mid-90s and touching ...

Nelson Velazquez is 1/2 with a triple, BB, and 2 runs scored.

----

3 Ks for Bruzual, giving him 21 in 19 this year and 62 in 58 homerless IP as a pro. Known for giving up a ton of walks (62 as a pro), he's given up two in his last three outings/5 IP. Development!

And you're gonna go "eh" on Nunez with his velo at his age but include Bruzual? I mean this list is already absurdly long, but you're gonna have to explain that one to me. Yes to the first question pretty handily. One got promoted to Arizona and the other is having a tough time repeating ...

Oh, even better! Hurt his elbow and yeah, doesn't seem anyone mentioned TJ. The Cubs seem to use it as a last resort and have done a good job avoiding it. Underwood, de la Cruz, Carlos Ocampo wasn't said to have TJ...Use stem cells instead!

There's a couple LHs believing in themselves down in the DSL today. Luis Rodriguez continues to chug along, Misael Garcia seems to be improving as the season moves along. Hopefully there's upside for these guys to develop a potentially high ceiling.

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 8-3-18

I noticed today that Jeremiah Estrada is 7th on FanGraphs' list. He was a personal favorite in the 2017 draft as a potential impact reliever with command of a good fastball and his changeup, and am really curious to see how he comes back post-TJ. He's hard to rank because of the TJ, though I think t...
