Re: The 2018-2019 Cubs Offseason Rumors & Discussion Thread - "On wrongs swift vengeance waits..."

Decline the option and trade for a RH starter with say 2.5+ elite seasons in him, please! Pretty much boiled my offseason wish list down to: Harper High upside RHSP in his 20s either pre or first arb RHH OF preferably capable of handling CF and hitting HRs if/when necessary Quality backup infielder ...

Yep, Suspiria was the good stuff, even featured a legitimately well placed jump scare to open the climax

Re: 2018 AFL

That's actually a pretty good point. And considering it was only a few months ago pre-draft that Law himself stated Hoerner had above average speed, that makes much more sense than Law now trying to claim that he has below average speed. I guess I just assumed all the "baseball instincts"...

Re: International Free Agency Thread 2018-2019

Can’t remember if we ever figured this one out...According to a BA article the Cubs lost Florencio Serrano because Tiajuana planned to give him 50% of the $1.2 million rather than 25%. The Cubs were not penalized because they were unaware of the % his current club would pay Serrano.

Re: NL Central Also-Rans: Reds, Brewers, Pirates

Well, I didn't see that coming. Like, maybe a promotion or something. But just a lateral move to a team in the same division with a similar payroll is sort of interesting, no? Very interesting...My speculation is that Johnson sees the arms and pedigrees on guys like Iglesias, Luis Castillo, Cody Re...

Re: NL Central Also-Rans: Reds, Brewers, Pirates

That’s a big hire, Johnson’s pretty excellent. Maybe the Reds - who are loaded with young power arms they’ve more or less managed keep healthy - finally get their pitching act together.

Re: 2018 AFL

Being clocked at 4.1 isn't subjective. That's borderline plus speed from a RH hitter. I am probably with you on most of Hoerner's tools being 2nd division though. The hope is that the 45 power turns into 55 down the road with launch angle stuff, and that the speed/instincts will allow the 50 arm to...

Re: 2018 AFL

Fangraphs has him as a 70/70 on speed. I’d assume that’s based on some numbers they have access to or talked to guys about and this is likely Law just going all in one way on a guy that he does often. You guys know how I feel about rankings and those scouting grades! As far as I can tell this and L...

Re: 2018 AFL

Without any times or anything to work with, maybe Hoener looks faster than he is thanks to shorter strides + some good old fashioned benefit of doubt due to TWTW/GRIT?

Pretty meh on bringing back Hamels. Great pitcher but

Speaking of dumpster diving FA pitchers - thoughts on Drew Pomeranz?

It’s pretty funny how people are pretending to give the Braves a shot in this. horsefeathers the Braves

Re: Movie Thread 2: The Sequel

More confidence building news: As for Amazon Studios’ remake of Dario Argento’s Suspiria, it scored an insane $89,003 per screen average in just two theaters in New York and Los Angeles. It goes wider next weekend, which could prove interesting. As ERC Box Office notes, this is bigger than The Shape...

Well, Trubisky is massively outplaying Darnold today.

Re: 2019 Draft Thread

There is so much content available now on draft prospects. It's kinda crazy. The 2018 WWBA World Championship event just took place and there were so many elite HS players/pitchers. This kid seems pretty interesting, but I could list a bunch right now. Good, simple delivery and I think he's very pr...

Re: Week 8: J-E-T-S @ Bears Sunday at noon on CBS

Really like what the Bears have done with the IOL. Daniels - Whitehair - Long should be excellent Daniels sb a good one I don’t think it matters so much but he was my #1 center in the draft. Whitehair was the top Lg/G prospect in his draft. Long has tackle size. Really talented group Trubisky OTOH....

It's kind of surprising that this is happening, since some of the underlying factors that have led to lower participation rates in baseball (fewer scholarships than Basketball and Football, youth travel ball being hella expensive) are not getting any better. and actually are probably getting worse....

Also ran into this: https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-futures-game-was-black/ and want to say this is cool. I too have noticed seemingly more and more young black athletes are picking baseball and thriving in recent years. Last year’s draft as a banner year of sorts - a year after a black HS RH we...

Re: Minor League Musings

Bill: Nico Hoerner is only player from the 2018 draft in the AFL. He was hurt mid-season so he needs at bats. How is he holding up against upper level competition? Keith Law: Smart player but didn’t make much hard contact and he’s smaller than I thought . I think maybe a high-average/high OBP secon...
