Re: Politics & Current Events

If you are serious about progressive politics even the most ardent bernie bro should look at Bloomberg actually. Hes proven to be a more talented individual who can get something done. FDR was not a bohemian radical. You dont need to be to lead progressively. Warren is a duplicitous clown and if yo...

Re: Cubs Over/Under

86 wins feels about right. Yup. I think as of today between the Cubs, Brewers, Cardinals and Reds someone finishes in the 76-80 range, 2 finish in the 84-87 range and 1 gets to 90+. Whatever way you want to order the 4 I think has a fair argument. Stacking up wins vs the Pirates is going to be impo...

Re: The Cardinals

Yeah I unfortunately don't see too many places where the Cubs would blow that out of the water. The outfield in total lines up pretty closely, just give Schwarber the 2.4, Heyward the 1.3, and Happ (with Almora dragging him down) the 0.9. 13.8 from the infield should be mostly covered by Baez/Bryan...

Re: Politics & Current Events

Very likely I'm missing something, but is there a good reason to space out the states at all? Have national primary day in the spring and that's that. How effective would that be when you have a large field of candidates? They wouldn’t be able to “town hall” effectively and the one with the best ad...

Re: Offseason Top Prospect Lists

I'm gonna need a citation on Roederer and Andy Weber(?!?) getting a benefit of the doubt that Ademan does not. If Roederer is ahead of Ademan it's a matter of him being on the same path but earlier in his career so there is theoretically time to turn the corner. If that's what benefit of the doubt m...

HBO’s McMillions tells a simmering story of fries and fraud REALLY looking forward to this. I swear that this scandal had already been made into a documentary several years ago The longform piece outlining the guy's scam came out about 18 months ago, maybe that's what you're remembering https://www...

Re: The Arenado Dream

Right, I believe if they pick up his option, it's a 1/15 deal for LT purposes. So I have the team about $10M under if they pick it up, and $25M under if they dont. I used fairly rough arb numbers though so it's purely directional. Ah, I'm saying the CBT burden if they pick it up is 25 and 0 if they...

Re: The Arenado Dream

With rough arb numbers, I have the team about $10M below the tax next year if they pick up Lester's option, $25M if they don't. Knock both of those down ~$5M going from KB's fourth year of arb to Arenado. I think there's enough upper level pitching in the farm that you can reasonably count on it to...

Re: The Arenado Dream

How do you propose we get under the tax for 2021 while not making Kyle Hendricks start 100 games If you assume you need to cover 10 million you didn't before, then you have Lester, Quintana, and Chatwood freeing up close to 50 million in CBT payroll. You can probably fill those spots for a fair amo...

Re: The Arenado Dream

What in Arenado's metrics give people the impression that he will be successful outside of Coors Field? His stats are pretty generic away from Coors. I need help understanding why he is so coveted. He's on the wrong side of age 27, also. - Coors has a documented hangover effect where hitters strugg...

Re: The Arenado Dream

7-8 million per year in cash along with Arenado still adds 10 million to CBT payroll when traded for Bryant, which means you need to do some pretty heavy lifting to get under the tax line. Would be a great time for Ricketts to employ that 'If Theo comes to me with an idea that would improve the tea...

Re: Kris Bryant is awesome and we were always right to love him

This will never happen, but an interesting alternative https://twitter.com/DSzymborski/statuses/1222559360049721345 That seems like looking for an outside the box solution when a normal one(lowering service requirements) would be preferred all around. Something like making 60 days the cutoff for a ...

Re: NL DH by 2021?

I love good defense, but I think that probably makes the game go further in the blurnsball direction that it has the last couple years(by valuing power/home runs even more), which I definitely don't like.

Re: Cubs to sign Jeremy Jeffress

Mildly concerning velocity drop last year, but on the whole this looks like as much true stability that a FA reliever can bring for less than a million. Not a ton, but probably worthwhile given how many wild cards they've stacked up at the end of the pen.

Re: NL DH by 2021?

Because there is. How to sequence relievers and pinch hitters, when to sacrifice or double switch to optimize for the rest of the game, a big chunk of that goes away with a full time DH. You don't have to think it's some earth shaking difference, no one will tell you it's a completely different spor...

Probably Bote, maybe Descalso or Bryant. You're probably shuffling someone in from Iowa if Baez is out more than 48 hours even with Hoerner.

Re: 2019-20 Offseason Rumors/General Chit-Chat

how does Scooter keep Almora off the roster? Only way I can see is if they flex Nico to be the RH CF option, but that seems really unlikely compared to just letting Nico get more AAA playing time.
