Re: Bears offseason

It is a deeper class next year. Sam Darnold, all of 9 starts under his belt, does look like the next big thing, and if you tried would struggle to be in a spot to grab him. Josh Rosen looks talented, but just missed half of this season's campaign to injury and apparently has off field concerns. Jos...

I like Jackson, but give up a 6th to move up 5 spots? Odd.

Who cares? Sixth round picks are generally worthless.

Re: Bears offseason

Supposedly Carolina is in talks to move up to 2 (Fournette), but Cleveland is still interested as well (presumably Trubisky) The former can really only be good for the Bears. The latter... depends on how you feel about Trubisky. I like hearing both rumors, because the loser at 2 still probably want...

Re: ITT: Raisin & Tom/King Kong Obsess Over Shohei Otani

Is there any sense regarding how much he wants to keep hitting? Would an AL team that could DH him when he's not pitching have an advantage in signing him? if he pitched for an AL team, would you have him bat in that game or have someone else DH for him? If he was in the lineup as a pitcher and als...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-13-17

Nope, not really. It's still baseball. Only it's in short series so random lucky crap means a lot more. So, if anything, you could argue the opposite of what you said. You need better to make it through 162 than you necessarily do in a best of 5 and two best of 7s. I mean 1/4 of our playoff rotatio...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-13-17

Seriously, he shouldn't be going anywhere except to our 25-man next year (or even sometime this year). So he can fight for 350 PAs each of the next 2 years at the big league level, while 60% of the starting rotation reaches FA? This organization knows how to find people to pitch well enough to win ...

I don't remember Ryan Kalish playing at all last year, but apparently he got 10 plate appearances.

I honestly think I'd rather see Javy catch than Schwarber. Not because he would be better, but because of how fascinated I would be to watch him behind the plate. edit: obviously not in a game that matters, but when we inevitably are blowing out the Reds in the middle of August, why not let him pla...

I would have preferred Taylor, but I'll give Glennon a chance. He played well in his rookie year before Lovie stepped in. And we all know how well Lovie does with developing quarterbacks.

Re: Bears offseason

Glennon is going to get pretty big money from someone. I think I've seen 12-15 mill per from guys estimating his salary. The Bears certainly have the cap space and it could technically buy us another year before taking a QB early in the draft(or even allow us to see if a guy drops close to our 2nd ...

Re: Pitchers and Catchers to report on...

I also wonder if the Cubs don't give a crud about injury risk, as is: either the pitcher gets injured or they don't and trying to limit the risk by changing their mechanics is pointless, especially when they end up a much worse pitcher. Other teams might. I also believe that one of the major reason...

Re: Politics & Current Events

I'm really, really hoping this ban appeal that was heard last night by the appeals court goes against Trump. And not just for the obviously human decency reasons. He needs a loss or two here... Theatrics aside, it's a pretty straightforward legal question. I'd be surprised if the lower court's ruli...

Re: Cubs Offseason Top Prospects Lists (BA, BP, Sickels, etc)

I don't have the write up, but he has Happ at 63 today. He sees him as a guy with a solid OBP, 20 homers a year and .260-.270. So good enough to start on most teams, just not our infield. sounds like the type of player who could start at 2B for us if the defense is passable. I was being a bit facet...

Law is starting his top 100 today, did 100-81. Cease was the only Cub so far at 86, here's the write up.... Cease has one of the biggest fastballs in pro baseball, possibly hitting 103 mph this summer and definitely hitting 101, but his arm is so quick that his body has a hard time catching up. He ...

That's 7 starters, which can go up to 8 if we work out a small trade for Caleb Smith. If we can bring back Wood, I'd feel pretty comfortable with our depth, particularly given what appears to be our strong bullpen.
