No doubt. I get a little suspect when players in their contract year (in any sport) magically have a career year.

Re: Where will Giancar-go?

This calls for a 3 way deal. As long as Stanton gets to his desired destination, a 3 way might work best.

Re: Where will Giancar-go?

My god, him in the line up would be sick. That contract becomes an albatross in the last 5 years ($140M - $150M). That’s a lot of jack for what could be some unproductive years.

Signing him to $300k. What happens in year 2 and beyond? Is it then all arb eligible?

Can the Cubs make trades to gain additional IFA signing bonus money? $300K is so low.

Re: Politics & Current Events

On election day 2018, 50 senators will be what we consider to be retirement age(65), 19 will be at least 75 years old. On the other end of the spectrum, 17 will be under 55 on election day '18, probably 16 since Cotton is one of those. That seems problematic. EDIT: In the House, it's 154 that will ...

Re: ITT: Raisin & Tom/King Kong Obsess Over Shohei Ohtani

If his AB’s are not consistent, I would think he’d have a hard time with the pitches he’s seeing. It may force the hand to choose one or the other.

Is it a forgone conclusion that he’ll go to the team with the most IFA money to spend (ie Yankees)? If not, how would a deal be structured for a team like the Cubs?

Re: Offseason Transactions

I assume they would offer a few options - the more the Marlins eat of the contract, they can select 2-3 of the following players. The less the Marlins eat, they get 1-2, and so on.

Re: Offseason Transactions

The Giants made an offer for Stanton and are willing to take on a good chunk of his contract according to Rosenthal Given that the Cubs aren't getting him, I could definitely live with Stanton in San Francisco. Wait...you're gonna live with Stanton in SF? :) If he goes to StL, the contract would im...

Re: Cubs Offseason Rumors

these are jesse rogers's opinions (as opposed to him reporting who tomorrow's starting pitcher is, which he can at least sort of do) so the correct way to look at them is to expect the opposite to be true Either way, its a very lackluster off season, in my mind. The main point was, what if that IS ...

Re: Cubs Offseason Rumors

In a straight up trade scenario, why would the Cubs trade a cost controlled player from the roster (Happ) for Britton? Britton is arb eligible in 2018 and a FA in 2019.

I’ve read a couple articles that say something to the effect of: StL is willing to send their top pitching prospect (Weaver).

Well no horsefeathers - I would think it’ll be a minimum of 2 top pitching prospects + others.

Crazy to think that Kershaw could opt out after next year (age 30). He's making $35M per. If he opts out, how much more could the guy want to make? Obviously a longer deal but still, these numbers are getting crazy, I sound like my grandpa.

My preference would be to swing for Stroman instead of Archer, although not sure if the BJ’s are ready to deal.
