If they were in the NL Central, they would win it by 20 games.

I think for 2021 he certainly will, plus it allows you to start Nico in AAA if you want.

Or Nico can platoon with Cronenworth and backup Baez.

Re: Cubs deep in discussions with Padres on Darvish

Replacing Kyle Schwarber with worse, older Kyle Schwarber just so we could dump our best pitcher is certainly making me consider just how much I enjoy sitting in the bleachers. Seems like if you've won 56% of your games the last 3 years and the rest of the division is openly broadcasting that they ...

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread

Tbh, I really don't see who gets in the game for Darvish. If the Cubs shopped Hendricks, they could probably get a market, but hard to see what remaining teams get in the game for Darvish. I mildly wonder if Dombrowski might consider it in Philly as a win now move, but seems a bit unlikely. Twins, ...

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread

The Rockies got little-to-no production from C, 1B, and 2B last season.

How about a Christmas trade: Rockies get Caratini + Bote + Underwood for Jon Gray + Mychal Givens + Cash ($3 million?)

Re: It's HAPPening!

Yeah the owners lost revenue but idk how many actually lost money/ran a deficit. They saw a lot of their expenses slashed. I could see how the Ricketts lost money just because of the significant debt burden and service they have for the purchase/renovations/development, but I think they’re somewhat...

In addition to Joe Biagini and Trevor Kelley, we also brought back Matt Dermody The Cubs have agreed to a minor league contract with left-hander Matt Dermody, MLBTR has learned. The 30-year-old southpaw will be invited to Major League Spring Training to compete for a bullpen job. Hopefully the vacc...

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread

The whole point of the Frasier/Musgrove trade was to get Musgrove, but seeing that the Pirates want to dump salary I added Frasier. If the Pirates want to switch names away from Bote/Mills toward prospects, that would be fine. Both Frasier and Musgrove would be great additions to filling 2 of the Cu...

I would still like to see a deal with the Pirates.

Bote + Mills for Murgrove + Frasier.

The Pirates save some money and the Cubs get a dependable 2B and SP.

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread

I don't know where you're getting your salary numbers for 2021. Happ + Bote + Mills is basically $3million (or less). I would expect Lester to get at least $5-6 million, Schwarber will probably get $5 million, the old guys and the overseas pitchers will all get in the $1-2 million range, Lindor is ...

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread

As I posted before (about not knowing the payroll situation), I don't think PTR is going to approve 7 FA signings plus adding Lindor's salary while only disposing of Contreras' salary. If the Cubs have that much money to spend, we can certainly do better than that. Just Contreras' salary? Did you m...

Yeah I’d give up some significant stuff for Arraez. Could be a spot for Willy. Alcala + Arraez for Contreras? :barf: Luckily the Twins have Garver and Jeffers at C and aren't really a Contreras match Are we really that sold on Arraez's first 487 ML PAs across two seasons? Re: 2020 Offseason Thread

From MLBTR: Rosenthal still outlines a possibility of Minnesota moving someone like second baseman Luis Arraez in order to slide Jorge Polanco over to second base. Arraez plays 2B and has a slash line of .331/.390/.429/.819 over 2 seasons at 22 and 23 years old. Looks like he could solve the 2B and ...

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread

I'm still not sure what the payroll situation is because of all the mixed messages - trade Bryant, keep Bryant, trade Darvish, "in play" with Semien, looking for "diamonds in the rough" with Bourque and Holder, passing on DeSclafani and Wacha for low salaries, etc.

From MLBTR:
The Rays added a veteran source of innings to their rotation Friday morning, announcing a one-year deal with right-hander Michael Wacha. The CAA client will reportedly land a $3MM guarantee on the heels of a rough 2020 season with the Mets.

Looks like a smart move at that price.

Still intrigued by the multi-year interest of this board regarding Manuel Margot considering his numbers continue to look like crap to me. Re: 2020 Offseason Thread

I like Grossman a lot, I think he brings to the table a lot of what our offense lacks. He's also probably average in CF? My only worry with him is if his offensive efficiency would suffer some in an everyday role. I think if it's an either/or, you're basically debating between an elite defense/aver...

I'd prefer someone like Grossman over JBJ but it's nice to see the Cubs linked to a free agent who I assume would expect to be paid with actual US dollars and not Stanley Nickels. Re: 2020 Offseason Thread

Jeffress Wow. Had no idea he was still controlled and that I forgot he was the closer for a lot of the season. He was a FA. The other potential answer is Tepera, who was under control and was non-tendered, but I'm giving the benefit of the doubt on b2b's accuracy considering Tepera pitched in the 9...
