Re: 2016 Trade Deadline

Apparently the Rangers are deep in talks to get Vince Velazquez from the Phillies. They lost out on Cashner so they're gonna empty the farm now. I don't think its possible to lose out by not acquiring Cashner. I would agree, especially considering what the Marlins gave up. But a young cost-controll...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-29-16

Anyone know why Matusz was scratched from his start tonight in Iowa? Saw a reporter tweet it wasn't injury related and then nothing since.

Re: Minor League Musings place holder.

Also, a blast from the past, Brett pointed out today that Jesus Castillo was one of four Eugene All Stars. He has a 10.31 K/9 and 2.43 ERA. Erick Leal is also pitching pretty well in Myrtle Beach. Can't believe we got both for short fast white man Tony Campana. Odds on either getting a promotion so...

Re: 2016 Trade Deadline

What a package for the Padres. Geez. Cashner, Rea for 2 top prospects, a buy-low starter and an elite reliever who will be back from TJ surgery next season. I'm sure this makes the Phillies happy about a Hellickson trade and really sets the market for starters now.

Or for someone to tweet that Jon wasn't receiving texts before Jon tweeted it.

Re: Cubs add Chapman for Torres, et al. imb wishes we paid more

You know what absolutely sucks? We have an amazing bullpen with guys that can throw 97-105 and I have totally mixed feelings about it. Ugggh Yeah, I've spent the better part of the past 2 days rationalizing this move to myself and feel kinda sick that I'm doing that. This guy is scum vs. god I want...

Re: 2016 Trade Deadline

Blue Jays acquired OF Melvin Upton and cash considerations from the Padres for RHP Hansel Rodriguez. Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports hears that the Padres will cover all but $5 million of the roughly $22 million remaining on Upton's contract. The 31-year-old has enjoyed a resurgent season with the Padr...

Re: Trade deadline best case scenarios

I keep thinking about what's next in terms of trades. We've been looking at starters and apparently have interest in a lefty power bat and I as wondering what it would take to get Kole Calhoun and one of Hector Santiago/Matt Shoemaker from the Angels? Those two pitchers are on the market and while ...

Re: Cubs add Chapman for Torres, et al. imb wishes we paid more

those that peruse the Cardinals forums, what are their reactions? Similar to the discussions we're having: -Did the Cubs overpay for a rental -I wouldn't want the Cardinals to acquire a guy with his background -Wish he wasn't coming back to the NL -Guess the Cubs are completely going for it

Re: Chapman

I'm still just having a hard time with this one, between the haul for Chapman, the fact that no extension is in place and the fact that he's a POS. I'm really interested in this press conference/statements from the front office. It's a bit of a haul, but it seems like Torres is really the only one ...

Re: Chapman

From Chapman's view, do you really give up the chance at free agency to sign what would be like a reasonable deal? I suppose with some of the baggage, but I don't think teams care enough to not offer him a ton of money after the season. Chapman has already made a lot of money, close to 50 million i...

There's no way Theo gives up Torres for 2 months of renting Chapman. There has to be an extension.

Well you'd hope so

Re: Chapman

I am not going to be happy if we give up Torres and more for Chapman. Unless that more is like Dallas Beeler and we get Eovaldi in addition.

Even then.

Edit: Can get behind it a little more if it comes with an extension.

Re: Chapman

I don't like Chapman as a person, and I don't want to overpay for a rental. I have a feeling I'm going to be disappointed if we get him based on what we'd surrender.
