Re: Random Offseason Musings and Rumors

Looks like Trevor Cahill is signing with the Padres. He's from that area and they're gonna give him a shot to start.

Re: World Series Swag Thread

My mom ordered me a framed press plate of the Tribune cover. About 8 weeks later it finally showed up apparently. I'm pretty jazzed about it. Also, for people still wanting swag, Lids is having a pretty sweet 50% off apparel and 25% off novelties deal. Got myself one of the long sleeved shirts for l...

https://twitter.com/MarinersPR/status/819265728737996800 DiPoto at it again. Don't know much about the prospects the M's gave up, but Smith is a nice OF addition and I've liked Simmons for some time now. Could be an impact late inning arm for them. Re: Cubs offseason thread

The Cubs have signed catcher Carlos Corporan and re-signed infielder Munenori Kawasaki to minor league contracts. Corporan spent several years as a backup in Houston and last appeared in the Majors in 2015 with Texas; he hit .197/.246/.333 at two Triple-A stops in 2016. The 35-year-old Kawasaki pla...

Joel Sherman on the Cubs' pursuit of Tyson Ross: http://nypost.com/2017/01/05/cubs-shopping-with-audacious-6-man-rotation-in-mind/ He says the Cubs could re-sign Wood if they miss out on Ross, but it sounds more like him guessing than any new reports. MLBTR also throws out a few (gross) names If Chi...

Some people in the organization think Eloy could be G. Stanton. Manuel also liked Matt Holliday as a comp to him.

Re: General Cubs Chit-Chat

This is super random but I fell into a BR rabbit hole, and discovered that former Cub greats Justin Germano, Frankie de la Cruz and Ronny Cedeno played ball this year in the Italian Baseball League (which is also apparently a thing). Also, if you're wondering what Josh Vitters is up to, he is in the...

Re: Cubs Offseason Top Prospects Lists (BA, BP, Sickels, etc)

Pretty shocked Underwood isn't in there but Manuel just mentioned in the chat that's he isn't high on him. Ryan (Chicago, IL): Is Duane Underwood still considered to be a future SP, or has his outlook changed? John Manuel: Sorry for the double-post everyone. Ryan, Duane Underwood is one of the more ...

Got a Javy Baez tee, the hoodie the team wore at the parade, a polo with the WS logo, a couple of the hats, a replica trophy and the Tribune commemorative book featuring the newspaper sports covers of the Cubs for the past 100 years (including the WS win covers). Also supposedly got the framed Tribu...

Cubs sign Daniel Moskos LHP, Fernando Rodriguez RHP, Ali Solis C, and Jemile Weeks 2B to minor league deals per Nick eddy. Was the failure of Daniel Moskos injury related or a garden variety bust? From the way my Pirates fan friends talked about him, he seemed to be their Hayden Simpson. A reach wh...

Re: Encarnacion to World Series Runner Up

Good for the Indians. Got a legit power threat in that lineup. If Brantley and the rotation are healthy, they'll be right back in there again.

Another aspect of this is the market should heat up again. A lot of free agents and teams were waiting for the next domino to fall.

We don't know for sure if the other one off is a Boba Fett movie yet, right? Assuming it IS though, what are some others you'd like to see in the future? I'd be up for an all inclusive Bounty Hunter movie, but my guess is that'll basically be the BF movie, incorporating Jabba too, which would be a ...

Jonny Gomes plans to play in 2017. "I've got some more pull homers in the tank,'' Gomes told Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com. Good to know. Gomes, 36, last appeared in the majors in 2015 while batting .213/.313/.347 with seven homers and 26 RBI in 262 plate appearances between the Braves and Royals...

https://twitter.com/JonHeyman/status/811283570274795522 I wonder if Uehera was Plan B then? Doubt we would've signed both. The thing with that is we were connected to Uehara during the Winter Meetings and Ziegler just signed a few days ago. So either we were a "mystery team" a couple week...
