Re: General Cubs Chit-Chat

From a talent perspective, I think we still have more projected production than any other team in the division. I don't really buy into the theory that the whole is less than the sum of the parts with this team. I just think we experienced negative variance last year and that if you played that sea...

Re: General Cubs Chit-Chat

As currently constructed, I still think we're the best team in the division. But man am I booooored with this offseason. I'm confused about "still" being the best team? I mean its certainly debatable but our 2nd best reliever right now is Rowan Wick and our position player and rotation de...

Re: 2019-20 Offseason Rumors/General Chit-Chat

An old friend: The Angels signed former Cubs’ prospect Arismendy Alcántara. Alcántara hasn’t played at the highest level since 2017, and his career .189/.235/.315 line (49 wRC+) reflects the plate discipline woes that have done him in. He’s still just 28 years old, though, and his 2019 return to af...

Re: Shogo

They should just make Rizzo the lead off hitter and be done with it. It's fine for stretches but then you lose your most consistent middle of the order bat. Plus he's just a terrible baserunner. You're still putting a guy who gets on base the most in the spot that gets the most ABs. Stack Rizzo/KB/...

Re: General Cubs Chit-Chat

How the horsefeathers is anybody extolling the virtues of Albert Freaking Almora on here? I thought we were past that nonsense. You have to realize that he is just entering his age 26 season. He has a proven track record and his best days are ahead of him. Arismendy Alcantara only played through hi...

Re: Potential Kris Bryant trade thread

League-wide collusion except for the Yankees, who are some $50MM over the threshold. But then the Yankees have been a useful bogeyman for the small-market teams for nearly 30 years. And, if I remember correctly it will be their second year in a row. Red Sox on pace to go over three years in a row. ...

Re: Potential Kris Bryant trade thread

Trading him now so that they don't have to look cheap for not paying him in 2 years. Also some nonsense about how they tried really hard to get him to sign an extension but they couldn't so they had to try to make the team better by trading their best player. Yeah that's the part I'm mad about to. ...

Re: Potential Kris Bryant trade thread

Wait, are we trading Bryant to some non-MLB entity? Is there an agreement to have no one offer him a contract in two years when his team control is up? Trading him now so that they don't have to look cheap for not paying him in 2 years. Also some nonsense about how they tried really hard to get him...

Re: Potential Kris Bryant trade thread

Yes....Ricketts wants the Cubs underneath the lux tax. That's what is driving this. Very frustrating. I agree with you, but not the post you quoted. Teams have decided to treat the luxury tax as a salary cap. I think Ricketts is doing what he’s told. By....who? Who do you think is in charge here? T...

Re: Potential Kris Bryant trade thread

From someone who put his feelings into words a lot better than me: And again, this is all horsefeathers, a word that’s becoming synonymous with everything Cubs right now. The Cubs aren’t trading Bryant because they think it improves anything, short-term or long. It’s because they don’t want to pay ...

Re: Shogo

I swear I want to try and be more positive about the Cubs, but if they sign this guy it's basically screaming "BUST" in gigantic, building-sized neon letters. A past-30 international player whose main assets seem to be hinged on speed and who has been dealing with foot injuries being sign...

Re: On Bended Knee - The Rizzo Thread

I know everyone wants to get paid, but I could see this as Rizzo reaching out to take a longer, lower contract to “help” the Cubs keep Bryant. I think Rizzo is as nostalgic as we are and then some, Bobby Bonilla him. Pay him 3 million a year forever. Pay his great-grandkids 3 million a year until th...

there's really no reason to believe they're going to create a giant hole at one position to address another, i'm very confident in saying Robles simply isn't available here idk...the heyman tweet makes it seem like the door might at least be somewhat open (he mentioned him for a reason) if the nati...

Re: White Sox sign Grandal 4/$73

I don't know why. I'm really not sure there's any production drop off from Contreras to Caratini/Chirinos. OTOH trading Contreras to sign Chirinos is pretty pointless. Chirinos probably isn't a worthwhile upgrade on defense and his 2020 salary will probably be higher than Contreras' I mean, if you ...

Re: 2019-20 Offseason Rumors/General Chit-Chat

Out of complete boredom, I looked up what date the Cubs made their first significant transaction in the contention years. Not sure if acquiring or trading Seal Boy is a significant transaction so I included the next transaction in those years as well. 2018: November 29 (Traded Tommy La Stella to An...

Re: Astros stole signs electronically in 2017

I'm surprised former players are admitting it now. I don't know if MLB can retroactively punish the Astros for this because I'm not sure if electronic sign-stealing was prohibited in 2017? I hope they get punished for this. . I’m sure they can punish them now, but it’s too hard to do anything about...

Re: "Time makes fools of us all" - The Kyle Schwarber Thread

Kyle struck out a lot less in the second half, and I think that accounts for the change. How do you account for the fewer K's? I think reputation. Early in the year, Kyle got rung up on a lot of balls out of the zone. As umpires got feedback on their varied degrees of awfulness, I think they learned...
