Re: 2018 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

My homer pick that I'd like to see the Cubs take at this point is Trey Harris from Mizzou. Senior sign and only a 4th OF profile, but we're past the point of taking college pitchers who don't throw strikes and college hitters who can't hit, so there's little risked. Doing this in this year's SEC isn...

Re: 2018 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

No Luke Heimlich through two days. Honestly, I'll consider this whole draft a win as long as we don't pick him. The Cubs don't need the bad publicity, but I wonder on a more societal level whether he should forever be barred based on a teenage mistake (his claims of innocence not withstanding). The...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 6-6-18

Am I the only one completely incapable of remembering the difference between Hatch and Lange? Like I know Hatch was the OSU 3rd rounder and Lange the LSU guy, but their profiles are similar enough that every time I read something about one of them I never internalize it as them specifically.

Reynolds’ K rate this year was only 17%, after the above I was worried it was north of 20. I look forward to irrational optimism with him after Filiere has not repaid my love so far this year.

if only there wasn't some incredibly dumb political controversy in baseball, then Carl going to see dinosaur museums instead of visiting the Trump WH could've gotten a similar response as the Eagles.

Ethan Roberts, RHP, Tennessee Tech

He appears to be a multi-inning reliever, 26 appearances, 1 game started, 71 IP. A good one too, 61 H, 2.41 ERA, 96/20 K/BB, 4 HR

Tennessee Tech is in a super regional this weekend.

Re: 2018 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

I love the job Theo + crew have done as much as anyone. However, I feel like they are getting more praise than they deserve for the drafting job they've done with the Cubs. I'm more than willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on the first round college hitter. But what else have they done in...

The difference between 15 and 150 on prospect lists is a rounding error, they’re all going to fail, it’s okay.

What is the benefit of taking one of those guys later instead of with this pick?

Lower risk. The later you take the risky sign, the less of the draft pool you’re betting on it.

So what do we think a good outcome for Hoerner looks like? Something like Jed Lowrie or Asdrubal Cabrera? fWAR is based on just FIP, not xFIP. I expect most of the rotation and Rizzo to not be in such a state by year's end, and although it's fun to imagine a team with 9 (!) position players north of 3 fWAR, odds are not great that all of those folks continue their pace the full season.

Re: Regular Season Rumors

Hot take: Archer is not a very attractive trade target. He hasn’t had a sub-4 ERA since 2015, he turns 30 in September, and the Rays are naturally going to try to get value like they’re trading away an ace. You can get a 3ish win pitcher in much more attractive packages than Archer.
