Re: The star, the pizza man and the commish

we've had the whole "there is no bad pizza" conversation before and i'm largely a subscriber to that theory that said, i'd rather eat a freezer burned jack's than papa johns or pizza hut. gross. Having attempted the bolded within the last few days, be careful what you wish for. As an asid...

Re: Politics & Current Events

Does Murkowski maybe work as an example? If the health care repeal didn't disproportionately screw her state, she probably would've voted for it. Also voted for Russia sanctions, voted against the Planned Parenthood shenanigans, and voted against DeVos's confirmation. Not saying that makes them a t...

Re: Starting Pitching candidates

I don't think Chatwood is going to throw enough strikes for the front office to bet on him for a 3 year deal or for 8 figures per. Same goes with Chacin. Maybe you get one of them without that restriction, but it's one of the reasons that I do think Cobb is a likely target. Fair enough, I agree the...

I'm a little late, and this is largely echoing others, but a quick anecdote. I work in customer support, so we see a lot of people passing along their requests for our product, e.g. "I would totally buy your thing if it could do XYZ or if it cost less". In personal experience and in readi...

I don't see why an AL team wouldn't let him DH at least part time.

Re: ITT: Raisin & Tom/King Kong Obsess Over Shohei Otani

I guess my last question then is how did the rest of Baseball allow for a CBA to get passed that virtually assured that the best International pitching prospect in a generation would be a New York Yankee? There isn’t this problem if they’d done something like phased in the cap over a three year per...

Re: Trading Heyward

I don't understand why all 3 having NTC is such a big deal. What indicator is there that Shark or Melancon would turn down a trade to Chicago? Heyward is a legitimate question, but Brett in particular has been talking up 3 NTC as this inhuman obstacle. Yes it's another thing to consider, but the od...

Wow, Toronto hangs on at home, but they lose Jozy and Giovinco to suspension for the first leg of the conference finals.

Last I heard, Stinnett was throwing 90-91. Any reports on his stuff tonight?

Gameday has him 93-94 with the fastball, including striking out Acuna on 3 pitches.

Signing Cozart and trading a SS for a SP that otherwise would cost more dollars than Cozart is a very interesting idea.

Re: The Mock Off Season Thread

I haven't been able to come up with an offseason I really like yet, but this is as close as I've gotten: Sign: - Darvish - Cobb - One of Nicasio, Shaw, or Reed - Austin Jackson - Rivera Trade: Happ+ for Hand and Jankowski I wouldn't be above adding a 3rd reliever like Tim, but unless you can do some...

Re: Starting Pitching candidates

Merged our two SP threads since they'll be talking about filling the same roles. I've been trying to think through some buy-low style acquisitions, the idea being that there's some reason to hope they'll be worthwhile, and would have a cheap enough acquisition cost to allow for the best possible off...

Re: Starting Pitching Options FA 2018

Tanaka is owed 3/67, was he really likely to do that much better? People are already lining up to be worried about Arrieta's performance and not giving him 9 figures and he's had much higher highs than Tanaka. He's much older so it's not a 1:1 comparison, but I do think elbow trouble and never demon...

Sounders are the first team in the conference finals after dispatching of Vancouver, who basically had no interest in attempting to score goals in either leg. Very gratifying to see Clint Dempsey having fun playing soccer again. Not quite sure how I feel about that beard though. He's less sexy, but...

What are the odds that Rosario makes it to the first day of spring training on the 40 man roster? I'll say 5% and feel that's probably incredibly generous.

I'm saying that stated package is more than enough for Yelich, and not a good deal for the Cubs to make. Ok. And I'm saying I don't think the Marlins make that deal. Would you make that deal if you are the Marlins and in a total rebuild ... and Yelich was your prime candidate to get multiple qualit...
