Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 5-14-18

Meh. Make him a reliever and see if his stuff picks up. I don't really care for Hatch and I was disappointed when the Cubs selected him in the 3rd round. That 2016 draft class doesn't look great right now. I wanted Zac Gallen who went two picks later to the Cardinals. Outside of the 1st round picks...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 5-11-18

The reports I saw on Swarmer said something along the lines of 91-93 but can ramp it up to mid-90's as a starter, decent life on the 4-seamer, a slider/curve/change all average or so. To be clear, I'm not trying to pump him up as some sort of future 2/3, clear mid-rotation type starter. I think he'...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 5-9-18

Do we know how hard Hudson is throwing these days? Because he's still pretty young and those Fielding Independent numbers are solid. If/when he some of that projectable velocity from draft time becomes realized velocity he could become a thing pretty quick. Also, I didn't realize Hatch spent all of...

Also, 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1/1 K/BB and a save for tonight’s #Mekkeswatch AZ Phil provided an interesting comp for Mekkes a couple days ago. Rod Beck. Both large men, though Mekkes is considerably taller. Both have/had below average FB velocity for relievers. Both used intimidation and an aggressive, ch...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 5-8-18

Big surprise on Velasquez. Perhaps less exciting prospect-wise but equally surprising is the return of C Will Remillard after two Tommy John surgeries, missing both 2015 & 2016 and playing just 8 games last year between Mesa and Eugene. On top of that, Remillard HR'd. His one previous career HR ...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 5-6-18

South Bend's website makes it sound like Albertos' move to the bullpen is permanent, which is dumb when Extended Spring Training should be a better option: Sending right hander Rollie Lacy to the mound for his first start with South Bend, the Cubs inserted Lacy into their six-man rotation with Jose...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 5-6-18

Bote HR #5 He's 5-5 on the day. Bote is legit in my mind. I think he could start at second for some teams. He didn't look great in his short time with the Cubs, but he looked WAY better than Zagunis. I was watching a Smokies game last season and the color analyst that night said something I found q...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 5-5-18

When a player is young for their league and yet still gets promoted in-season, like Almora was throughout his minor league career, I like to track their numbers from their starting level only to isolate their performance before having been challenged by the in-season promotion. For example, Andruw ...

21. Brewers - Ethan Hankins 22. Rockies - Kumar Rocker 23. Yankees - Cole Winn 24. Cubs - Grayson Rodriguez (so three of my favorite pitchers went right before the Cubs pick in this mock draft :? ) 29. Indians - Conner Scott (also interested in Thomas, according to Law) -- I like Conner Scott too a...

https://www.thecubreporter.com/05012018/cubs-triple-angels-riverview Eury Ramos might be a thing now. RHP Eury Ramos got the start for the Cubs and was outstanding, retiring the first six Angels hitters in a row (1-3, K, K, F-7, 3-U, K - all three strikeouts swinging, including Dustin Ackley on a 3...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 5-1-18

I'm ... mildly curious if the early success for Underwood is something he can sustain. At some point, would like to see him stretch into 6 or 7 innings consistently if he's going to keeping a starting gig. Who knows, maybe the switch finally was flipped. I need to see Underwood sustain this until J...

58 pitches through 5 innings for Adbert. He threw 83 pitches his last time out. He likely has a pitch limit around 95 tonight.

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-29-18

Despite putting up dominant performances as a reliever at Michigan State, Dakota Mekkes was a prove-it-at-every-level guy for me because of the lack of mid-90s velocity on his fastball. Reports said his FB played up because of deception in his delivery and his stride and 6'7" frame causing him ...

Amaya, on the other hand, is killing it. Awesome to see. I know, good lord. He's hitting .292/.370/.538 with 7 doubles and 3 HR with above average walk and K rates (8 walks against 13 Ks in just over 70 PAs). For a guy who is a talented defensive catcher, just turned 19 a month an a half ago, this ...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-28-18

Looks like Lange and Little both has their best pro starts today. Little: 4.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K Interestingly, Little looked better than his stat line might suggest and Lange, despite a dominant stat line, looked worse. Lange missed a lot last night consistently bouncing balls (fastball...

Tyler got two quick outs in the 9th but allowed 4 straight hits letting in 2 runs. 3.2 IP giving up just 1 H, 0 BB with 6 Ks. After that, not so much. 0.1 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 0 BB and 1 K as he got the final out via strikeout.

Ricky Tyler Thomas doing it again in a piggyback capacity this time. Announcer says he expects Thomas to pitch the 9th, but so far 3 IP, 1 H 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K.

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-27-18

Another solid outing for Assad. 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K.

Brings him to 19 IP, 14 H, 4 BB, 17 K with a WHIP and ERA of 0.95 as a 20-year-old in Low A. His stuff needs to improve if he's going to become a realistic MLB prospect, but he's getting the job done against MWL hitters.
