Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-14-17

Also, I have a feeling Theo isn't done raiding the system. So, I'm thinkin' the remains of the system will be whittled down a little bit more. I have the same feeling. Perhaps it's just wishful thinking, but with Quintana in the fold, I have no problem with going after a few more pieces especially ...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-14-17

Its a numbers game. Its not an absolute necessity that kids only spend a season in the DSL. Nunez is only back there because he can get a full seasons worth of AB's there, and couldn't, if he had moved over to the US..... Perez is raw, catchers move and develop slower in many cases.....Kelli was ra...

Yep. That and he's hit incredibly well for about two months now. Couple that with him doing that at age 18 in full season ball and he's clearly in that "top" group. If we can even use that word now...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-14-17

I don't really have a strong sense of the order but with Eloy and Dylan gone and Happ officially no longer a prospect, I think my new top 11 would include (in no particular order):

Alzolay
Little
Lange
Paredes
Hatch
Candelario
Albertos
Ademan
Amaya
Caratini
Burks

Hendricks so far: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 35-23 pitches-strikes Good to see. I'd be interested to hear where his velocity was at. The Smokies broadcast is notoriously bad, both with the video and sound quality and announcing, so I didnt expect the announcers to be aware that people would be watc...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-9-17

Last I looked I had 5 hitters ahead of him(Eloy, Burks, and the AAA trio), and on the pitching side you've got an increasing number of interesting options plus the draft class. Short answer, I don't know if I would. Agreed. I just came up with a list and had Paredes at 12. Obviously I only put a co...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-7-17

The at bat for Paredes 2nd HR was especially impressive. He gets down 0-2 in the count on consecutive above average curve balls. Lays off a fastball in the dirt. Fouls off 3 or 4 more curve balls (one of which he drilled down the RF line deep but foul). Then drives a fastball on the outer 3rd over t...

Make that 2 HRs for Paredes. Now up to 7 on the season. Not bad for an 18-year-old thru a little over half of his first year in full season ball.

Re: 2017 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

As for the Cubs draft, it'll be interesting to see if anything changed today. If Lange was set for slot, the savings would then have allowed the Cubs to offer slightly over 400K to a guy today.... I'd be thrilled to get Meredith, although he had wanted 700k, I think. Doubt Ruth would take that eith...

From BA: Conlon ranked No. 239 on the BA500 prior to the draft. His pre-draft scouting report: Some projectable prospects are able, and others are projects. At the beginning of the 2016 summer showcase circuit, Conlon was more of a project. He showed plus arm speed and durable body, but he struggled...

After starting his 0-for-17 in his first 4 professional games, DSL SS Christopher Morel has turned things around hitting .328/.446/.534 in 74 PAs with 4 doubles, a triple and 2 HRs along with a 13.5 K% and a 14.9 BB%. He's gotten on base in every game during that stretch except for two, and those we...

With roughly 30 hours to go before the signing deadline, the only 3 players without any indication next to their names on CCDT are 27th rounder, junior college freshman RHP Darius Vines, 32nd rounder prep RHP Hunter Ruth and 34th rounder RHP Andrew Karp, junior out of University of Florida. Both Rut...

Re: 2017 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

Nice. According CCDT, it appears the Cubs will sign 24 of their top 25 picks with 14th round prep SS Luis Vazquez now indicating he will sign. The lone top 25 pick not to sign is another prep SS, 22nd rounder Skyler Messenger. Assuming those marked as likely to sign actually do (and they will), the ...

Miguel Amaya caught all 20 innings of Eugene's extra innings marathon. Oh, to be 18 again. In case you were wondering, he was given the next day off. Boise attempted to steal 6 times. Interestingly, Amaya threw out 4 of them, but the 2 successful attempts happened when Amaya overthrew the base. Seem...

For those wondering, Pelicans announcer said Oscar De La Cruz injured his shoulder while warming up on May 31st. Said it wasn't serious, though De La Cruz has been on the shelf for over a month now. Shoulder injuries, no bueno. Also, Jimenez was removed after twisting his right ankle sliding into 3r...

Bear Cub wrote:What was D.J. Wilson's injury?

It wasn't ever found out exactly. I think he got injured on a defensive play. He was listed on the DL.

If it were for poor play, he would've showed up in ExST games and then gotten in games right when the short-season teams started.
