Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 9-5-16 (Regular Season Finale)

Project much? I am a sensitive guy. I like that I'm a sensitive guy. It's kind of my job to be a sensitive guy. I'm an actor. But you misunderstand. You don't ever hurt my feelings by disagreeing with me. I like learning other's points of view. It's why I come here. In fact, you've never hurt my fe...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 9-5-16 (Regular Season Finale)

Sorry, that was supposed to read "hopefully he's not done improving at age 22". I don't know what being a 4 year pro has anything to with still being able to improve. What difference does it make if you spent time learning and maturing physically in college and got drafted when you were 2...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 9-5-16 (Regular Season Finale)

Yes, that is unfortunate. Hopefully he's not improving at age 22. He's a 4+ year pro displaying the same skillset at every level. Beyond maybe some age related power in the next couple years, what are the odds that he actually takes a leap forward? Sorry, that was supposed to read "hopefully h...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 9-5-16 (Regular Season Finale)

I need to take the time this weekend to update the prospect ranking page. I was going to wait until the minor league seasons were completely over, but it might as well be done now. Can we start making a list of who needs to come off the list and who needs to get added? Players to come off: Contrera...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 9-5-16 (Regular Season Finale)

Quick - now look at his performance in the minors. I liked Almora plenty on draft day. Since then he's shown one consistent offensive skill in that he does not strike out. Duh it matters for everybody, feel free to name the player I also don't look hard at performance for as well. Kellogg performed...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 9-5-16 (Regular Season Finale)

A player's resume matters now? Okay... 1. USA Baseball's athlete of the year after leading the 18 and under team to a 9–0 record and being named the tournament MVP. 2. Played on six national teams while in high school, tying a record. 3. Won the USA Baseball Richard W. "Dick" Case Player ...

Re: Minor League Playoff Discussion & Boxes, 9-9-16

Gotta like what Erling Moreno has been able to do this season after missing most of his first two seasons due to TJS. He pitched 62.1 innings in his first full (short season league) year. At 19, he performed quite well in the NWL limiting hitters to a .150 BAA and walking just 5 in 30 innings. He ma...

Re: Minor League Playoff Discussion & Boxes, 9-7-16

Gotta think he's a strong top 5 consideration in our system this offseason (I guess that isn't that ... big a statement ... considering it's thinned out a bit), and wonder if he's a borderline top 100. So exciting to see a young arm legitimately mature and develop (I mean, he wasn't throwing this h...

Love the fact that those two arms had such great outings. Clifton's really taken big steps ... here's hoping he keeps chugging forward next year in AA. Doesn't seem like his control issues should be that big a problem, but I guess ... you never know. Right there with you, toonster. Clifton has taki...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 9-4-16

I have no idea what to make of Wladimir Galindo's season. Lots and lots of Ks, but lots of power and production too. Galindo was a top 30 IFA in 2013 (MLB's #25) who hit well with power (.278/.356/.462) as a 17-year-old in the VSL with an 8% walk rate and 22% K rate, so he definitely had the swing ...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 8-27-16

I'm skieptical of that even though I like Burks. His K rate's well above the league average, 21.6% to 19.7%. He's shown some secondary skills with speed, pop, and patience, and will be age appropriate for AA, but that swing and miss is tough to ignore considering this is still a single A level. Car...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 8-27-16

Well, potentially any 21-year-old putting up the numbers Burks is in the Carolina League might shape up into a major league starter . But I wasn't comparing his chances of doing that to Caratini's. I was simply saying his numbers could take a similar jump. I'm skieptical of that even though I like ...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 8-27-16

Burks is my pick for a breakout along the lines of Caratini next season. If by Caratini you mean a guy who might shape up into a potential starting ML and break out next year, I'm going Martinez. I may hound Martinez's strikeouts, but relative to league and roster Burks misses more. I like Burks mo...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 8-27-16

Martinez reaches double digit HRs with one off of Jordan Sheffield. He's hopefully cooled it with the striking out nonsense, just 4 in his last 36 PAs (8+ games). Charter Burks also hit a HR, #11. He's quietly had a quality season, mostly, and maybe even belongs among this system's top 30 prospects...

I just think the time is now for the Cubs and soon to get a really high quality starter, the more proven the better. During the rebuild was the time to take a gamble. Now is the time to go spend for someone the FO identifies as their guy, especially if he can be gotten without disrupting the big le...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 8-26-16

The Candy Man is up to his old tricks. 3-3 with a HR and 2 doubles. He's already got a new career high in HRs with his 12th and added his 13th tonight. He's one away from tying his career high in 2B (35) after getting his 33rd and 34th tonight. Should come up to bat at least once more... 10 games le...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 8-24-16

Not that they should bring it back, but a package including all those guys better bring back Stanton, Trout (obviously Eloy and others would have to go) or Fernandez if they are all going in 1 deal. Yeah, that's kind of what I was envisioning. Not Trout or Stanton because I had pitching on my mind ...

https://twitter.com/MinorLeagueBall/status/769245379770650624 Thanks, David. Always a fun retrospective read. From that top 20 list, 3 were traded for Chapman and Montgomery. Chapman's a short term dominant asset who will definitely impact the Cubs chances of having home field throughout the playof...
