No, he was on 60-day DL.

Brett Anderson is not on the Cubs 40-man roster. He was DFA'd. It's unclear if he will clear waivers still.

Re: Cubs Reportedly Acquire Justin Wilson & Alex Avila for Candelario & Paredes

Wow. Love it. Wilson for this year and next helps a lot. Avila is the veteran catcher they needed. There was no room for Candelario on this team, and Paredes may turn into something is 3 years, but with Baez and Happ on the squad, he very likely won't be missed. Like the Quintana trade, this is the ...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-30-17

Maples comes in with a 5-4 lead and pitches a perfect bottom of the 9th for the save. 96-97 on the FB. Sliders ranging between 85-88 with one at 83. Didn't see him throw one curve which is his best pitch. Hadn't previously seen him throw that many sliders. Might be working on it in AAA. Is it a sli...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-30-17

Another prospect oddity. 2017 12th rounder RHP Ben Hecht out of Wichita State has faced 17 batters while in a Eugene uniform. He's given up 2 hits and walked 2. The other 13 he's gotten out. All by strike out.

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-30-17

Here's an interesting name to watch. South Bend right-handed reliever Jhon Romero (a squatty but strong 5'11", 195 lbs.) has had a unique progression to his pro career thus far. After starting his pro career late (signing as a 19-year-old), he pitched just 10.1 innings over two seasons in the D...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-29-17

Cubs Den founder and minor league analyst John Arguello passed away from brain cancer today. His blog was a breath of fresh air especially during the Cubs long overdue rebuild and kept Cubs fans interested and aware of what was coming. He lived in Mesa the last couple years of his life. The move fro...

https://twitter.com/calikusiolek/status/889880439959060480 Soooo...it's pretty fun that all of this is describing a 6'4" 18 YO LHP who has already thrown nearly 80 successful IP in the pros at 17 and 18 with some games left to pitch this year. Yep! That's good stuff! Keep that comin', Brailyn.

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-23-17

From friend on other board: McCloud was on the Score. When questioned about the pitching in the lower minors, he singled out Tseng as a guy at AAA. He mentioned that Tseng was 90-93 with a cutter and excellent change up. At AA he mentioned Alzozay and that he threw harder than Tseng. McLoud when he...

Great discussion, y'all. Thanks!

Javier Assad matched Adrian Morejon pitch for pitch giving up 1 hit in 6 innings with no walks and 4 K on 67 pitches thus far. Morejon was brilliant again. I fear he's the one who got away.

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-23-17

BTW, in Rucker's start yesterday he was sitting 94 may touched higher and lower but that 94 was consistently on the black. If you can locate 94, you're going to get a lot of High-A guys out very easily. He also showed a change up with very good movement down and running back in to right-handers. He ...

aramis ademan hit his 4th home run for eugene. he's hitting well, with a .279/.348/.434/.783 line coming into tonight. all of this is great news, because he's only 18 and it would make me really happy to have another aramis on the cubs. ian rice hit two home runs and may be our best prospect at thi...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-17-17

CubsWin, thanks for Tseng scouting report. The curious thing with him is that his walks are so low. The fastball is the easiest pitch to throw for strikes, the curve and the change the hardest. Pretty weird to have an all-offspeed-all-the-time guy walk so few. As you say, a lot of curveballers can ...

At the half way point in the DSL season, in my opinion these are the guys that have distinguished themselves thus far: DSL 1 CF - Fernando Kelli (18, turns 19 in 2 weeks) .366/.475/.527, 9 2B, 3 3B, 2 HR, 17 BB, 26 K, 28 SB, 6 CS in 131 ABs. C - Henderson Perez (18, turns 19 next June) .273/.400/.37...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-14-17

Its a numbers game. Its not an absolute necessity that kids only spend a season in the DSL. Nunez is only back there because he can get a full seasons worth of AB's there, and couldn't, if he had moved over to the US..... Perez is raw, catchers move and develop slower in many cases.....Kelli was ra...
