I hope you get struck down with a lightning bolt so I never have to listen to you do play by play for another baseball game. You are like a skinnier, more eloquent version of Chris Berman. I hate you. Go away and never come back. And the run doesn't score on a double play for third out in the inning, know the rulebook before you step in the booth you overpaid hack.

I used to like him so much in the 90's, especially when watching basketball...I guess he was actually better then? It just feels like over the last 10-15 years he's tried REALLY hard to turn himself into this "elder statesman," Vin Scully-type announcer, and it just doesn't work at all.

Yep. He's become a little too self-righteous for my taste.

Whoever told him to do play by play like he's doing a Ken Burns voiceover is a bad person.

Exactly. Plus it ends up sounding like he knows, like ONE thing historically about each team and he just keeps trying to stretch it out. It never comes across like he has this huge wealth of knowledge like he so desperately wants it to seem.

He should no longer be allowed to broadcast Cub games. His St Louis bias is sickening. Whether he's giving multiple history lessons, ragging on the play of Baez, or at another time previously, when he decided to go after Strop, he's the absolute worst.

Are you mistaking him for Joe Buck? Costas worked in St. Louis for a brief stint at the beginning of his broadcasting career, but he grew up and went to school in NY:

Bob Costas was born in Queens, New York City, the son of Jayne (Quinlan), of Irish descent, and John George Costas, an electrical engineer of Greek descent. His father's family roots are from the island of Kalymnos in the Aegean Sea in Greece.

Costas grew up primarily in Commack, New York, graduating from Commack High School South. Following high school, Costas majored in Communications at Syracuse University, Syracuse, New York; however, he left school prior to graduating, to accept a job at radio giant, KMOX, in St. Louis, Missouri.

True, the above is obviously correct, but he settled in STL after graduating from college & considers STL his second home

Yeah, living here as long as I have, it's painfully obvious they consider him one of their own.

Costas would tell the story about walking around with a Mickey Mantle card in his wallet even as an adult. Grew up in NY but his love for Stan Musial is second to none.

I don't hear the St. Louis thing at all; if anything, it was the opposite and he was practically drooling over the idea of the Cubs going to the WS last night. He's just terrible at how he says things.

Yeah, totally agree. And the sanctimony.

The Cubs’ transaction list under Epstein and Hoyer reads like a work of fiction, a wish-fulfillment list composed in hindsight.

Bob Costas reminds me of the 1996 olympics and really bad NBA games. Also, he was once a Bulls play by play I believe

Bad NBA games? WTF?

I think of nothing but Bulls dominance, TBH.

I just remember early 90's Pistons mainly in connection with Costas, not the Bulls

I associate Costas with the 98 Finals, and the start of the Lakers run. I didn't mind him then, but then again, I was like 10.
