I really don't get this whole obsession with celebrity deaths and 2016. People die every day. Most of the people on that list were no more than the millions of others who died except they were good singers or actors. Their deaths are as tragic, but no more so, than most any other non famous people. This whole thing just seems extremely superficial to me. Just my $0.02.

Thank you. I was saying this very thing today. This whole thing of mourning Carrie Fisher like she was a family member just because you like Star Wars is kinda pathetic. Not anyone here really, just what I've been seeing.

Most of these celebrities brought great joy tonmillions of people. I don't think it's weird to treat their deaths differently than the thousands of random people I never knew.

I'm not sure I've really seen anyone mourn a celebrity death to that extreme. But for a lot of these deaths, there is certainly just a nostalgia thing going on, as many of these people left a pop culture impact from people's youth in the 70s and 80s.

The ones with the most mourning, like Ali, had lived a life with more significance than a talented acting or singing career.

It's weird to treat them as a group and act flabbergasted at the numbers, as there are more and more celebrities every year and more and more of them getting older and dying.

I'm not flabbergasted at the number of them dying (that's only going to get worse as the oldies/classic rock generation of musicians starts dropping like flies). But some of these have hit closer to home than in past years.

There are a few surprises on the list like Prince, but mostly people who are just old or notoriously lived hard lives. I also don't understand the over the top 2016 is the worst sentiment.

It's a harmless coping mechanism for people to deal with deaths that impact them emotionally.

Honestly, the people tripping over themselves to try and sound more and more baffled over what's really a very easy to understand response just come across sounding like da Bum in his anti-Santa thread. Or Careless in pretty much every thread.
