God Bless America

Postby CubinNY » Sat Apr 23, 2016 5:45 pm

Last night my family went to a Montgomery Biscuits game. In the 7th the PA announcer asked everyone to rise and take off their hats for God Bless America. At the same time we were making our way out of the park with two very tired young children. While that terrible disgusting song was blaring over the PA system I noticed that most of the people had their hands over their heart and some were giving us dirty looks as we made our way out of the park. I just want to say horsefeathers YOU to all of them. That song is horsefeathering horrible and it's not the national anthem so go horsefeathers yourselves.

it's a way better song than the star spangled banner, god references aside

The Cubs’ transaction list under Epstein and Hoyer reads like a work of fiction, a wish-fulfillment list composed in hindsight.

also, you live in horsefeathering alabama and were at a minor league baseball game...are you surprised at the response?

I fully support this rant. The song is terrible and forced patriotism at sporting (or any other) is simply unamerican.

If we're picking horsefeathers "anthem-y" songs, "America the Beautiful" crushes both of those turds.

If we're being sensible, we should not rest until this is America's rightful national anthem:

And that so many stadiums do "God Bless America" during the stretch is baffling. OK, it made sense right after 9/11; hell, it made sense that NY kept doing it for a while. But the horsefeathers would any team be completely killing the mood late in the game with this somber dirge and patriotic schmaltz? What the horsefeathers does that have to do with having a good time at a baseball game? We already had the damn anthem before the game started.

I mean, if your song has the line "white with foam" and that's supposedly describing beautiful oceans, you've horsefeathering failed. If you see foam in the water at the beach it's time to get the horsefeathers out of the water.

Speaking of songs that people hate & discussions that we've already had ad nauseum:

Wouldn't it make more sense to play Go Cubs Go during the 7th inning stretch as opposed to after a win? The song does predict a Cubs win and that would be more contextual, you know, before the outcome was actually decided.
