The Cubs’ transaction list under Epstein and Hoyer reads like a work of fiction, a wish-fulfillment list composed in hindsight.

I could see trading for a starter if things don't get better (I think they will), but Hamels makes no sense. He has the EXACT SAME PROBLEM as the rest of our starters. He's lost a couple MPH off his fastball, so now his walk rate is creeping up because he's nibbling, and when he does throw strikes he's giving up homeruns like crazy.

I really don’t see a scenario playing out where we trade for or sign a starter of any more significance than a Eddie Butler.

yeah, i was thinking something along the lines of the cahill/richard moves in 2015, to give them an extra arm for that crazy stretch of games in august, but that's about it.

Would anyone of that caliber be any better than Alzolay or Mills?

And speaking of Eddie Butler, is he dead or what?

Derwood would make the trade to make sure Chatwood doesn’t start playoff games.

Based on our pythag record, we’ve played like a 109 win team this year (29-15 pythag record). That’s pretty good considering until recently our starters had a negative WAR for the season.

Blasting the Marlins twice, the White Sox once and the Reds three times in the span of two weeks will certainly help projections.

Having the hardest SOS before that stretch (and 7th hardest to date) mitigates the impact of those two weeks.

As the Cubs' offense continues to put up numbers unmatched by any other team and the pitching finally starts to get in a groove, what better time for this off-day doomsday article I've had in the bank for 18 months?
