That one time in the 2017 NLDS where Scherzer was dealing and then blows up in the 5th inning...that was....awesome.

Are the Cubs starters going to bounce back based on thousands of innings of past performance?

No, it is the children projections that are wrong.

Duensing seems like a nice guy and was great last year but how much longer do we have to watch him go out there this year before we DFA him? The phantom injury DL trip didn't work.

I stopped reading after the second paragraph because I couldn't make any sense of the premise. 10th in WAR, but 26th relative to other rotations? What does that even mean? I'm with Lester on this one, you can keep your silly analytics.

I found the starter we need ...

He's made 3 starts, 14.1 IP, 15H, 6R, 5ER, 0HR, 2HB, 8BB, 5K

Trying to find a Javy all star jersey that reflects what they actually wore during the game - cubs jersey with all star patch. All I get is the generic national league jersey that they didn't wear. Can anybody help?

In July:

Albert Almora: .265/.308/.306, .342 BABIP, 5.8 BB% 21.2 K%
Ian Happ: .298/.431/.553, .379 BABIP, 19 BB%, 25.9 K%

can't believe the guy with no power that gets 94% of his hits on grounders just between the ss and 3b is coming back to earth.

Yeah, Almora needs to run a crazy high BABIP to be more than a replacement level player and he doesn’t do a whole lot of things well. If we could find a team who just saw his shiny BA and and Edmonds catches and loved him I’d be all for trading him. I think this year is about his peak and what he does is very easily replaceable.

He's got value on the current version of this team because even if you regress his numbers against lefties, they're still really good (especially compared to say, Schwarber's .668 OPS against lefties this year). If we go the Harper route next year, then yeah, he should be the odd man out.

Almora is too valuable for any of the relievers on the market, but probably not enough to headline a package that gets us a frontline starter. I'm fine with him being the small side of a platoon and a Schwarber defensive replacement for the rest of the year.

That tells me so much more about Happ than it does Almora. Happ is a really exciting player and I hope he reaches his potential with us.

Yeah he’s carved out a role this year and he is useful, I’m not saying he isn’t. But a lot of his value is luck/unsustainable and I wouldn’t hesitate to trade him for the right offer (as opposed to not really being open to trade any other position player on the roster). I’d be willing to move him for “as little” as a RP this offseason when we get Bryce and then replace Almora with whatever RHH OF is available that always is like Maybin who can replace pretty much everything Almora does.

Saw on MLB.com an article about the best player on each team acquired via trade. Here's what they have for the Rays:

"Rays
Chris Archer (acquired with Brandon Guyer, Robinson Chirinos, Hak-Ju Lee and Sam Fuld from the Chicago Cubs for Matt Garza, Fernando Perez and Zac Rosscup, January 2011)
Garza would never pitch in a postseason game again; he'd leave the Cubs for the Rangers right before their postseason run would begin. "

I remember Cubs-basher Steve Stone going on incessantly about this trade and how the key was Kak-Ju Lee. Sure, Archer was a prize, but yopu gotta give up talent to get talent. Stone was gushing about Lee and how the Cubs made a mistake letting him go. The following season, Lee was hitting pretty well, and Stoney would bring it up from time to time.

Funny thing is, of all the players acquired by Tampa, Lee is the only guy Tampa got that didn't play in the Majors. The other four have had respectable careers.

This is a funny way of saying he was traded for Olt, Edwards, Grimm, and Neil Ramirez.
