The Cubs have been weirdly coy about not being able to announce anything with the staff. They knew this was coming or forced the personal reason to let Hickey save face.

Nah, I don't think it's a cover. With as weird as they've been about this, I definitely think it was something that they knew was probably coming, and was a legit personal situation. If they were just letting him save face, they would've done it at the same time as the other coaches.
