Dodgers seem to have a good handle on it as well.

I will say this I bet the Venn Diagram of scouts, coaches, players, and FO that dont believe in analytics & sabermetrics would overlap pretty well with the population that doesnt believe in masks & think Covid is a hoax.

No surprise that a Friedman or Epstein led franchise would take this seriously.

I don't think analytics and sabermetrics has anything to do with the Covid outbreak, especially when you see half the Cubs without masks talking in the dugout.

What is your limit for a Tyler Chatwood contract extension?

He’s probably earning himself a million per good start (unless the wheels come off).

Jose Quintana will be on the next Cubs team that wins a World Series.

Is 2 years, $25m a reasonable answer? Obviously time to see how much of this performance is real, but the dude had a 2.84 ERA (which was worse than his FIP) in the second half last year. He keeps his ERA under like, 3.8something, I'd probably be fine giving him the same contract we gave him the first time.

I don't know if it will be with the Cubs, but he could make himself a lot of money this year. What a difference a few years makes.

I think what to do with Chatwood really depends on how much money the team is willing to spend. Assuming they decline Lester's option, there's about 25-30 mil to the luxury tax line. That's probably enough to do something like resign Chatwood, sign a reliever, and trade for a starting pitcher in arb (e.g. Jon Gray). As things currently stand, that ought to be a solid offseason.

But if PTR decides to PTR even more than anticipated, Chatwood is probably not an efficient use of resources.

If he generally looks like this I’m guessing some team goes multiple years. But I expect a weird and suppressed FA market, I wouldn’t go more than 1 year at $9-11 mil with an option for $12-15 mil and like a $2-3 mil buyout on him. There’s a decent amount of SP available in FA this year that I wouldn’t really commit to any more than 1 year.

I get what he's saying and that it was for aesthetics, and I appreciate it very much, but a 0.88 batting average would be very good.

It will be interesting to see how the Cubs do against teams with winning records, but at the very least we know that they are much, much better than the bad teams.

Fun fact: there are currently only 3 teams with winning records on the Cubs schedule, and they're all in the AL Central
