I guess this was needed. Only amassing ~250 PAs then missing essentially all of last year (a important developmental and formative year) the struggles really probably should've been something we saw coming. I know he hit well in the World Series and maybe that jaded us/FO a bit that he was just a supernatural hitting monster and missing that much time, at a young/developing age, wouldn't affect him. Looking back on it he probably should've played winter ball somewhere (if health permitted) and even started the year in AAA instead of being thrown into the fire. I have full confidence he will come back and be a very good hitter, this is just a bump in the road.

I am very excited to see Zagunis, however, I've been a huge fan of his for a while now. It's too bad this is the move that made it happen, but I really, really like Zagunis.

He's Adam Dunn right now. That doesn't mean he always will be, but my friends who keep shouting about his "60 hit tool" can pound sand until/unless he actually starts hitting

The Cubs’ transaction list under Epstein and Hoyer reads like a work of fiction, a wish-fulfillment list composed in hindsight.

I have a few friends who will die on the scouting grade hill with some players, insisting that various players actual stats are secondary to how they've graded out in the minors.

Are we supposed to be disappointed if Kyle Schwarber "only" has a 14 year career and hits 460-something home runs?

Dunn had a 7 or 8 year period where he was a really, really good offensive player. Seems like people only remember his time with the White Sox.

I'd be more than happy with him hitting like Dunn did for quite a few years, especially since so far his defense doesn't seem to rank anywhere near as catastrophically as Dunn's did.

I'm fine with him being Adam Dunn so long as there are enough other hitters around him to a) mitigate his high K's but also b) take advantage of his walks

Man, if only he were on a team with a bunch of good young hitters.

What is it about his Ks that needs to be mitigated, assuming the on base and slugging are there?

I'm aware of the sample size difference.

Kyle's in his Age 22 season

Dunn's age 22 season (also his first full season):

.249/.400/.454, 84 R, 26 HR, 71 RBI, 128 BB, 170 K

128 BB's in a year from Schwarber would be unbelievable

so are you saying him being dunn would be a bad thing or a good thing?

I'm saying that Dunn is sorta what he is right now, and that's fine. We don't need him to be an MVP. And maybe he ends up hitting for better average (bonus!) but he doesn't need to to be productive
