Theo was here when Sean Marshall got traded?? That just doesn't compute at all...seems like Marshall was way longer ago.

The Marshall for Wood trade was one of the first moves I remember Theo making. It may even have been his first trade.

Does anyone remember what his first official player transaction was?

Those who have known Epstein a long time have suggested him as a future Democratic US Senator from Illinois or Massachusetts. Epstein has never publicly stated any political aspirations, but some Democrats have said that Epstein would make an outstanding politician, one who could even consider a presidential run at some point.

Haha. He doesn't seem like the kind of guy that has any interest in being in politics. I could see him being a Fortune 500 CEO as some have suggested but not a politician.

Theo Epstein hasn't experienced the kind of personal and professional failures it takes to drive people into a life of politics.

The floodgates are officially open. Theo's laid the groundwork for a long, long time. The 21st century will be the Cubs', lots of that due to this guy.

He traded for Rizzo, Fowler, Arrieta, Hendricks, Russell, Montero, Strop and Grimm in a relatively short time period. I can't imagine many other executives could point to a better streak of 'won trades' in such a short window. He drafted playoff vets Bryant, Schwarber, Almora and Zastryzny (kinda sorta). Signed coveted FAs Lester, Zobrist and Heyward to deals under what other teams offered. Then made in season trades that led to a historic World Series win in Chapman and Montgomery.

Basically I'm wondering -- did we just witness the greatest 5 year job by a Front Office in history?

I was always wondering what his political leanings were. If he ever runs he already has my vote. I've heard plenty of people wonder out loud if he was ever considering politics.

Maybe he'll turn around Apple, or run the big pharma company that finds the cure for cancer.

Just on a purely superficial level, he seems like a pretty bad public speaker. Obviously that's something you can coach up to a degree, but it would really have to be worked on if he was going to run for anything.

Yeah, I agree. I don't see him being the candidate if he ever got in politics. He seems more like the guy who would run the campaign.

Exactly. Watching The War Room again the other day and Stephanopoulos really came across in a similar way to Theo/Jed.
