Joe Maddon says things

Postby Banedon » Fri Feb 19, 2016 7:28 pm

Last year's mantra for the Cubs was Respect 90.

Maddon said today that the mantra for the Cubs this year is "Embrace The Target".

The Cardinals' version of Respect 90 is much, much different.

Joe Maddon says things at Hooters

The manager first heard about the controversy while he was dining at a local Hooters in St. Louis Sunday night.

“A guy came in with the shirt on and he told me he was denied access at the ballpark, so I was debating all kinds of methods to combat all that, but then I decided to let it fly,” Maddon said. “If the fans are responding, that’s the best way to indicate how foolish it is.”

Cardinals apparently have a policy on shirts with the word "suck". Ushers don't get to use discretion. People have been turned away for "Cancer sucks" shirts too.

They say they are going to update the policy and the new policy should be in place by next week.

Funny because I walked in right behind a guy who had a Cubs Suck shirt on for the Tuesday game. Nobody said anything to him.

No. I was walking in right behind him. While we were in line it was clear the whole time.

That's awesome.

The 47 seconds I got to talk to Maddon at an autograph signing at Cubs Convention was enough to tell me that the guy is the coolest in the room

saw this on GRB...didn't remember this.

http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/80787 ... d-rulebook

Johnson, on whether he has any intention of meeting with Maddon: "No, I don't know him that well, but I thought he was a weird wuss anyway, so no. I understand where he's coming from. His job as a manager is to protect the players, striking out at whoever is causing your players any grievance."

Johnson also called Maddon a "guru" and needled the Rays manager for being active on Twitter and for having a reputation as a genius manager: "I don't want to get into a shouting match with Joe. I looked him up on the Internet and found out he is a tweeter, so he can get to more people than me. But it was interesting reading. But you can tell him I have a doctorate of letters, too. Mine's from Loyola in Humanities, and I'm proud of that, too."

The Cubs’ transaction list under Epstein and Hoyer reads like a work of fiction, a wish-fulfillment list composed in hindsight.

Man, it's so nice to have a guy in charge who gets it:

Joe Maddon wrote: “There’s two things you’re looking at there. Is the shutout that important? That would be a personal goal as opposed to a team goal. The team goal for me was to not have Jon throw many more pitches after 113 his last time out – and have him spiffy the next time he goes out.”

Well since Maddon is discussing team over personal goals Arrieta really shouldn't have been allowed to go for the no hitter back in April. Arrieta already has a no hitter, so it's not as if he's never experienced that achievement. Plus there was a massive lead.

Unless the game is close and the pitch count is reasonable I'm not a big fan of going after no hitters. I've read that Johan Santana pitching a no hitter years ago, while having a pitch count of around 130, was speculated as being a factor in his body breaking down.

That post epitomizes why this website barely gets any new members. I wasn't trying to troll at all. I sincerely am against working a pitcher hard in order to get a no hitter. We saw back in 2003 how working Prior and Wood hard lead to.

But you decided to get nasty with your reply. Way to not start a conversation on a legitimate issue.

You're not new, and you have a history. A no-hitter is completely different than a shutout, and only everyone that's ever watched baseball should know that.

It's a no-hitter; a complete game isn't really anything special. And how does stretching Jake for a game compare to the systematic and sustained overuse of Wood and Prior? These seem like terrible and poorly thought out comparisons that are just trying to be contrary instead of a "conversation about a legitimate issue."

And yet you continue to come back. Your larger point is noted, but picking apart some little comment by Maddon to make this point shows your motives here. Jake threw under 120 pitches in that game FFS. Stop.
