He didn't miss significant time in either 2015 or 2016, it's not like he's never been able to stay healthy for a whole season. There's no reason to expect he's going to miss 6 weeks every season for the next few years unless you think he's just chronically broken now at age 24.

this might come off at nitpicking but didn't russell pull a hamstring or have leg issues before the 2015 NLCS and was left off the roster?

yep, he got hurt running out a triple. He's gotten hurt roughly once a week ever since.

it's about nagging injuries affecting his performance as much as it's about missing games.

He also has accumulated 3 nagging baby mamas in 3 years.

I mean I get what you're saying. I guess the simple way of putting it is, even though he's been injured a couple times the past two years, I don't really think he's any more likely than most other players to be injured going forward, since his injuries haven't been chronic things like recurring back spasms or something. With the exception of the past two months, he's been adequately productive during his career when he's playing. So unless the assumption is both 1) he's much more likely than not to suffer ongoing injuries in the future and 2) those injuries are much more likely than not make his performance resemble that of the past two months, then he's probably at a value low right now and I'd rather just hang on to him than sell low in the offseason.

Eh, he's a horsefeathers of a human, he's far from irreplaceable, and he's got tons of on the field issues at this point. Outside of defense, he offers very little. And hes starting to make decent money.

If he can net us a solid pen arm, and you get rid of his salary, go for it. We've still got the middle infield covered. We might need to move more than just Duensing and Kintzler this offseason, from a salary standpoint, if we want Bryce and Hamels back too. Russell is next on my list to go, after them, that's borderline reasonable to think about.

For one more year, sort of, whenever Zobrist isn't old.

Javy at SS, with Zobrist, Bote, and I guess Happ can still technically field well enough for a few starts here and there. If need be, you can probably find a cheap backup type too. Seal Boy too.

Yeah, if he nets us a decent, cheap pen arm, get rid of him.

Edit..... Wasn't thinking, but we WOULD possibly need to find a backup SS. But, Bote can at least till in occasionally. I guess it depends on the internal eval on Short.....

Now a .332 OPS in the 16 games since coming off the DL

Also he hasn’t ended a game with a higher season OPS than when he started since mid-August which is pretty tough to do when it’s in the mid-600s

Theo has a week to make this right, as far as I'm concerned. Russell needs to be DFA'd. Not benched, not suspended, not traded.

And good for Melisa for going public with it. Unfortunately, this will likely follow her around for the rest of her life. But, this needed to come out and she was only one who could do it with any authority.

It sounds like he needs some serious therapy, his lifestyle and mental health are probably why he is struggling both at work and at home.

From a baseball standpoint, that posting shouldn't lower his value from the Cubs' perspective. They know about the abuse & his lifestyle far greater than we'll ever know. We probably know about 10% of the worst things he's done (personally, I've heard some horror stories about other players from a diff. organization).

As I mentioned, reading that shouldn't change their perspective on him, he was bad both on and off the field before she posted that (despite it bringing a realism to it not seen before the posting). It sounds foolish to me to all of a sudden say, just get rid of him now that that is out. If they were going to unload him for his off the field stuff, that should've happened when this 1st came out (which would've been the right thing to do).

Do the right thing Cubs. I’m sickened to read this and realize this scumbag is on our team.

I would have much rather had our first championship in a long time tainted with steroid users like the Red Sox than tainted with scumbags that abuse women. horsefeathers Addison Russell

“One of his favorite excuses was that he was young”

Are we talking about temper and abuse or his baseball career? Chapman was still abusive at 27, and Addy was only, what, 22 at the time. Still tons of time for him to develop.

It shouldn't matter in light of this, but hopefully him playing like horsefeathers makes it easier for the Cubs to make the decision to part ways.
