Additional rule: you have to have one or the other. The only exception is you have an amazing board name. davell, I'm looking at you; put up a [expletive] avatar or something if your name only sounds like somebody tried say Dave as they lapsed into a coma.

Solid amount of info in that, to be honest. Monty back to a swing role, can trade a position player, not putting a priority on a top of the order hitter.....

Did everyone asking about a leadoff hitter lead off their question with a hearty, "D'UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR?"

- They're going to add 2 SP for sure. Which is fine, but I better not need to clamor for Montgomery while Tseng gets starts in May if someone is hurt.

- pre-2018 Javy and Almora are in line for bigger roles than pre-2017 Javy and Almora. Well deserved given their progress this year.

- Because Javy and Almora are in line for bigger roles, there truly is a position player glut. Not that you'd never find a use for all of Javy, Almora, Schwarber, Zobrist, Heyward, and Jay's replacement, but it's reached a point of diminishing returns where someone(my money's on Happ) is going to be traded for something more impactful.

- More acknowledgement of pitcher walks being a problem

Listened to this at work. His answer to the question about Arrieta and/or Davis returning was a long one about how players have the right to search for that big payday and how many factors, short and long term, a team has to consider. I dunno, felt to me like the 2018 plans don't include either of them. I was a little surprised how honest and specific he was about Montgomery's 2018 role, and it sure seems like Happ, Schwarber, or Almora is getting traded.

I think it was Finfer, who said he doesn't even bother bringing Jed to these things anymore lol. And there were multiple comments about how easy it is to get locked in to whatever Theo's saying and you just believe, the polar opposite of the horsefeathers shows the Bulls and Bears put on.

Would love to see some impact arms from within as either SP or RP - but if Tseng is it, well then.

Any chance of someone developing at a quicker rate than expected? Like to a couple of the college arms from the ‘16 draft?

I really, really like Alzolay and think he could start for the big league team (if healthy) by August 2018. And Theo's comments about him were a nice reinforcement to that line of thinking.

Alex Lange from the 2017 draft is probably going to start at Myrtle Beach so he might make a big impact by 2019.

Out of all the hitters that might be on the trading block who could we get the most in return for?

If you include Baez in that group(even though his odds of getting dealt are near nil), then it's him. After that, it's probably very situational depending on a team's evaluation and their needs. There's arguments to be made for Schwarber, Almora, and Happ.

I would guess he'd bring back the least(assuming we're limiting this to Schwarbs, Almora, Baez, Happ)

I would guess Baez is the least likely to be traded. Taking him out of the equation, I dont see Happ or Almora garnering more then Schwarber, specifically to an AL team

The Cubs’ transaction list under Epstein and Hoyer reads like a work of fiction, a wish-fulfillment list composed in hindsight.

Jose Albertos if his arm doesn’t explode has the kind of talent to reach the majors at 20/21. That’s not next year, but he’s legitimately a potential badass.

Looking forward to a badass and merciless offseason from Theo Epstein and gang/friends!

Would arguments for Russell be lower than any of them? Starting to wonder if the FO likes Baez at short.

I don’t see any indication by what they’ve done or said that would suggest they like Baez more than Russell at SS.

I feel like that’s the Theo nice way of saying “hey stupid horsefeathers, Russell is the SS and you’re and idiot if you think Baez is better.”

While no one doubts his range and overall fielding, there were some serious issues with Russell's arm strength and accuracy this past season.

He was like 2nd in DRS at SS in all of MLB even with his missed games, unless he has some degenerative issue in his shoulder/arm he’s the SS of the next decade roughly no questions asked

He had a shoulder problem last season and it was hinted it might linger all season.
