The Spring Training Thread

Postby weis21 » Sat Feb 10, 2018 3:29 pm

Figured since the first pics were out we could go ahead and start this bad boy up.

Sheridan has the first round of his pics over at boys of spring: http://boysofspring.com/chilis-here-but-its-not-chilly/

Happ already in mid-season facial expression form

Oh yeeeeeah, they turned over the coaching staff and Chili Davis is the hitting coach. I forgot about that, forgot the Cubs have done anything this offseason really. Davis, Hickey, and the Pirates pitching guru were some good gets. The pitching guys especially have outstanding credentials. I really really got into the Hickey hire after finding out his pitching coach career went beyond the thrift store Rays and to the amazing ‘05 Astros pitching staff.

The Cubs offense is going to be awesome this year, hopefully Heyward is in on that. Bryant and Rizzo are going to open the floodgates.

When will these articles stop?

His swing is broken. He tries to fix it. Video comes out of new swing. Modest improvement and people start claiming he's "fixed". Starts to decline again. Starts to slump. Hits tons of grounders. Somehow hits a HR and then returns to slumping again. Has a bad year with momentary flashes of success at the plate. Tries to clear mind and make improvements to swing during offseason.

Wash, rinse and repeat...

The Cubs’ transaction list under Epstein and Hoyer reads like a work of fiction, a wish-fulfillment list composed in hindsight.

Well, I was talking more about a specific filler article, like a really specific filler article that focuses on one player who happens to play for the Chicago Cubs.

I guess I never mentioned his name. Sorry about that lol. My fault Sammy Sofa  ...

Either when he's magically fixed, or when he's no longer on the team. And then it'll be someone else.

I saw a picture of Duensing and Lester playing catch on twitter earlier and they both had them on too. Wonder if they already had a themed day?

During a "Not For Women Only" panel discussion, former Cubs pitcher Mike Bielecki asked several players to invent a baseball catch phrase for Viagra. Theriot's ad campaign: "Viagra -- I always play hard."

You think it’s so easy to surreptitiously photograph a pitching coach as he furtively masturbates in public?

I dunno about other beat writers, but Mark Gonzales is especially inept at photography.
