Rough. I knew Yu's wife was a world champ wrestler, but had no idea she was Kid Yamamoto's sister.

Yu appears to be working this trainer (chiropractor? The tweet mentions his spine and the guys twitter has a bunch of stuff on stretching/back/flexibility stuff depending on translation) who’s twitter handle is ElvisPresley624. Lol. I guess Elvis doctors are better than Gryzlo at least.

That’s not the most ridiculous proposition in the world. IF he’s healthy enough to pitch 180+ innings and IF he performs just a bit better than his career averages, he’ll be a top 10 Cy Young candidate.

It’s not real likely, but it’s better than a lottery ticket.

Yu's like Heyward in that he seems like a really good dude, and that tops any frustration I have over any kind of a letdown performance vs. the big deal they signed.

It’s entirely possible he pitches like a very good pitcher this year but I doubt he touches 180+ innings. He only threw 40 last year, he probably won’t go more than 150. I could see him getting starts skipped early on with the off days or a 6-man rotation/Monty/Mills take a start of his at points through the year to manage innings.

Yu seems like a very strong candidate to become the 2019 guy who gets our hopes up early then falls apart and is injured just before the playoff push

Yeah, I assume he is going to fill Drew Smyly's 2018 role.

Obviously you can't assume everything will be fine with Yu's elbow, given the history there. But if in fact his elbow is OK, I think the fact that Darvish only threw 40 innings this season makes it more likely he'll manage a full load of innings next season, not less. His arm will be very fresh and if there are no issues with the elbow (or new health concerns that pop up) there's no reason he shouldn't get 30+ starts and 180+ IP.

I lean this way too. If healthy there won’t be any restrictions. He’s not some young pup they’re looking to build up gradually, just get healthy to do his thing. On Darvish’s end there’s still plenty of time to build his legacy as arguably the greatest or most dominant Japanese pitcher of at least his generation, so I don’t think he will [expletive] either.

As much as I hate TJ surgery, Darvish is such an oustanding case/talent (like how I was still down to trade for Jose Fernandez when that was a convo) + plays for the team I root for that I am willing to force some optimism. I thought he’d come in and win the NL CY IIRC sooo...Yeah, I should sleep more

It would be awesome if Yu is good to go this season. I've just assumed this whole time the injury will reoccur early in Spring Training and he will then get Tommy John.

Not saying it will happen, but the Cubs coming back from a 3-1 deficit to win the World Series does seem like the appropriate way to cap off this season and make the 30-for-30 even better.
