kelly is an nbc sports chicago employee. she's on the bulls beat now, i believe. don't think she'll be coming, but who knows. i'm not sure what her contract status would be or how that would work.

Not anymore.

Kelly Crull, who covered the Chicago Cubs (including their 2016 World Series championship) during her six years as a reporter for NBC Sports Chicago, is out at the regional sports network. “We appreciate everything Kelly has delivered to our network over the years and wish her nothing but success in her future endeavors,” the company said in a statement. Crull, who earned a journalism degree from the University of Missouri on a tennis scholarship, previously worked for Fox Sports Net in San Diego and Oklahoma City, and KOCO, the ABC affiliate in Oklahoma City.

Well, that seemingly makes her a lock to join Marquee, right? She seems very well-liked so there'd be no reason not to bring her in.

Marquee reaches a deal with Mediacom to provide regional sports coverage in parts of IL, IN and IA.

That's a pretty fantastic group of talent for a local network, but yeah forcing Len and JD to babysit someone a couple dozen games a year is just monumentally dumb.

Chris Myers is awesome so I’d be cool with him for say maybe 6 games or so. Glanville I like but he’s been a bit awkward in the booth so I’d say maybe a few games with him.

The rest will probably be a nightmare.

You guys are so negative. The on air talent is going to be 10x better than what we’re used to. We lived with David Dejesus as the top non-broadcast analyst for years. It’s going to be fun.

The pre game and post game stuff and studio shows I don’t care about. Those are usually bad and they got some good names for that anyways that have ties to the org and have experience doing shows already (Pena, DeRosa, etc.). Throwing a third person in the booth with Len and JD is horsefeathering dumb and unnecessary though. They have great chemistry, they don’t need a wrench thrown in. If they want to throw a third person in the camera well or something like they’ve done with Glanville to chime in here and there, fine, but a third person in the booth for a whole broadcast is stupid.

I think it depends on how it’s executed tbh. It doesn’t work on national broadcasts in large part because broadcasters on national telecasts... don’t really say much. The big value of color commentators outside of explaining more details of what’s happening on the field is providing anecdotes from playing and helping listeners understand what it’s like to be in a given situation. If this is done well it will be a lot of fun.

You think Len and JD are lacking providing the viewer with any of this? Outside of the real technical things, which again stick someone in the camera well or concourse or something like Glanville who can chime in 3-5 times a game to get technical. They don’t need an addition to what’s a phenomenal booth for a full game.

Len and JD are great together. I really hope the third person is an extremely rare thing.

I would not be surprised if Kelly Crull ends up at MLB Network or another national outlet. She’s that good at her job.

I think the problem is the talent and remit of that talent; others think it’s the format. Reasonable people can disagree.
