Brant Brown.

Mike Fontenot although it was probably more than 50 PAs before he had his great run in 08

If you add 'unexpectedly' to BigSlick's original question, I think you could go back to Edmonds. All the young guys were fun their first 50 ABs, but in a vacuum none of their successes were all that surprising. Edmonds was cooked and what he did was so out of left field; Bote wasn't considered a major prospect so what he's doing has been a nice bonus.

Big Willy was pretty surprising. He wasn't considered a big prospect until 2016, and then had a 1000 OPS in his first 50 PA.

We sucked, though, so that didn't really fire anyone up that much, I don't think.

I remember Jose Hernandez being good-to-about-average for most of his Cubs stay? Am I wrong? (I just looked it up. I was rightish. He somehow had a 4.5 WAR season for the Brewers!)

He was an all star in Milwaukee? Must have been an “every team needs a representative” pick

I'm glad we didn't trade him for some rental now. Bote should be our long-term Ben Zobrist replacement. I think he's even super religious just like Zobrist.

this may be a really dumbass suggestion for many reasons, BUT

if we internally, love Bote and think he's some safe bet to be 3+ WAR, Corey Koskie redux, what does Billy Eppler say if you offer him up Bryant, Happ/Almora, ++ for Trout? how much does he try to add on before you take pause?

Think that already easily gets the deal done if Angels have any inclination to move him with KB's extra years of team control.

But if you are making this deal because you see Bote as a solid to good starter. Thats not the deal you make.

You trade Russell, Almora, Happ, and even add any 2 prospects the Angels want. Amaya, Azolay who cares.

You go Bote to 2nd, Baez to SS and obviously Trout to CF so you dont need the CF platoon.

That trade above has to get you extremely close to landing Trout. If they insist on Schwarber over Happ you move Happ to LF, Trout in CF.
