What a weird article though...they're acting like "oh, a bad inning just happened to happen then"...as if that wasn't the culmination of blowing a 3-1 lead in the series.

But being able to explain that stuff away to yourself is, I'm sure, a key component to being successful in sports.

Nothing against Bryan Shaw, who's a really solid pitcher, but, yes, a bad inning did have to happen right there. The Indians had rode Corey Kluber, Andrew Miller, and Cody Allen all the way to Game 7. And they'd already run out of those guys to use. This was bound to happen. Their biggest mistake was in coming back and merely tying the game instead of taking the lead. There was no saving their season. There was no redemption. There was only Bryan Shaw.

Not sure if there's a spring training thread. Anyone know when the cubs usually take BP before spring games?

I’m pretty sure during that rain delay in our dugout, our clubhouse, somebody was like, ‘Let’s get this done. Let’s win this.’

Lol, riveting stuff that unnamed pep talk must have been.

uhh they should probably call these minor league system rankings or something lol

or is the MLB team not part of the organization now

As we continue our offseason prospect rankings, we line up the minor league talent in every organization from 1-30.

I'm aware. Just saying they shouldn't be called Organizational Talent Rankings.

it's in the "minor league" section of baseball america, what did you expect they would be talking about there

so if they were actual organizational talent rankings, would they be in the major league or minor league section?

not that i give a horsefeathers what section they're in. i saw them posted somewhere, saw the cubs ranked 16th, realized what they actually were, and laughed at the cubs being 16th on a thing called organizational talent rankings.

The Cubs’ transaction list under Epstein and Hoyer reads like a work of fiction, a wish-fulfillment list composed in hindsight.

Hendricks looks like he's really grossed out by Rizzo's 'pits and Jake looks like he's WAY too into them.

And Addy is trying to grab Javy's pits. We know the graphic designer's fetish now.

Nothing really surprising, but I like this

http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/1876 ... t-rotation

In fact, Montgomery and newcomer Brett Anderson might both win the job.

"Neither one has really been stretched out anywhere close to 200 innings over the last couple of years, so we're thinking it's almost like a hybrid moment," Maddon explained. "Almost fold one back into the bullpen for a bit while the other one starts and vice versa. Or jump a sixth guy in there now and then to keep the other guys from being overworked too early."

That seems like a very smart move. I love how Joe and the FO not only thinks about doing these things but actually implements them when there's probably near a majority of teams/coaches/FO around the league who wouldn't even entertain this idea let alone carry it out.

Yeah, I like that idea a lot. Let them work it out during the season. Keep both of their innings down. Keep Montgomery fresh and try to keep Anderson healthy. If another pitcher goes down for a couple weeks, you can slide one of them in and it would be a reasonably easy transition. And if things go according to plan, we will have a large lead in the division and we'll be able to do these things without feeling any pressure or desperation.

Would a video of all the postseason dongs the Cubs hit in 2016 be of any interest to anyone?

That reminds me how great that Dodgers series was. I missed seeing the "Kershaw crumple" after Rizzo's homer, though

That Baez homer off Cueto....it's so easy to forget about after winning the whole thing, but man that was a huge moment.

Fun fact: Due to the intentional walk rule change, Addison Russell received the final 4-pitch intentional walk in MLB history.

https://theringer.com/2017-mlb-preview- ... .g0bjpafzx

Every team on the list saw its BABIP rise relative to the MLB baseline in the following year. Collectively, they surrendered about 56 percent of the difference between them and the league. If the Cubs stick to the pattern, their BABIP- will rise from 85.6 to 91.9, which in 2016 would have translated to .274 — which falls within the range that ranked as the most popular poll result when Sullivan crowdsourced the Cubs’ future BABIP last year. Running through the same calculation we performed earlier, a .274 BABIP would have cost the 2016 Cubs 71 hits, 57 runs, and roughly six wins. They still would have had the best record in baseball.
