It looks like Bryant has been infected with the rage virus and Rizzo is trying not to get bit.

I will never tire of seeing that video in general and being able to pick myself out of the crowd on the Bryant WS Game 5 homer.

If Rizzo goes down on the DL for whatever injury, who takes over at 1B? Would Maddon use a platoon?

Like with any position outside C and maybe CF, Baez is the primary backup, it just might not be him playing the position. You can put Baez on the IF and move Bryant/Zobrist to LF and Schwarber to 1B. If not that, then Bryant would likely be at 1B. He started 6 of the 11 games at 1B Rizzo didn't start, and 2 of those other 5 were days Bryant also had off.

Yeah, I'd imagine it'd be Bryant to 1B, Baez to 3B for the vast majority of any games without Rizzo.

Candelario would probably be an option too.

Speaking of Candelario, I'm really hoping he takes La Stella's spot on the roster and we send Seal Boy on his way and he can go home and cry on his huge pillow. I still haven't forgiven La Stella for that stunt he pulled last year and really can't stand the guy.

This is probably a hot take, but I have to think the odds of Candelario making the team if there isn't at least one DL stint from up-roster to start the year are 0.0%.

I'd tend to agree.

The Cubs’ transaction list under Epstein and Hoyer reads like a work of fiction, a wish-fulfillment list composed in hindsight.

I mean, the only way he makes the team without injury is if the Cubs decide 100% they're done with La Stella and use him as the backup IF. But based on the franchise generally not wanting to throw away assets in general, plus La Stella's LH bat offering a little balance to the offense, I'd guess the chances of that are slim unless La Stella specifically asked to be let go or moved.

You guys are probably right. It doesn't do Jeimer much good to sit on the bench and barely play when he can play everyday at Iowa. The Cubs may want to showcase him at Iowa for future considerations i.e.trade bait come the deadline if a need arises. I will give La Stella credit, he has proven he can be effective coming in cold after sitting for 3 or 4 straight games and produce off the bench. Still doesn't change the fact that I don't particularly like the guy or how he handled his demotion last year.

Cool factoid I hadn't heard yet: In Montgomery, Davis and Uehara, the Cubs’ bullpen features three of the last four pitchers to record the final out of the World Series.

I vaguely remember that coming up when we acquired the last of the 3, but it's always worth mentioning again since one of them did it for us.

In watching the postseason home run video it just hit me how similar Baez Game 7 homerun was to his Futures Game homer. While those were some dark days at the major league level, it was fun to follow the minor league system and then get a glimpse of it in the Futures Game.

You knew things would get better, but even I didn't picture a scenario of the Cubs and their young talent in the WS within just a couple of years.

I'll say that he's way over the top and sounds like nails on a chalkboard.

What an odd take. "Way over the top" for a clutch home run in the postseason? Hmm ok

I appreciate his enthusiasm, his tone is just hard to listen to. His call of Rajai Davis' homerun was too much. The Arrieta call was pretty good.

The Davis home run was the 3rd biggest hit by WPA in world series history. Bigger than the Mazeroski HR. The only way to think it's too much is willful ignorance.

It freaking tied a World Series game 7 late after it appeared the Cubs were running away with that game. It was a huge, huge moment...

That and Matt Vasgersian wasn't a World Series broadcaster.
