if i squint hard enough i can KIND of see a bit of nomar in addison's swing (or maybe bat flip) and junior in kyle's swing (or maybe bat drop/flip)?

i don't know. this offseason has probably just beaten me down to the point that i'm delusional
I went with the Sheffield waggle a lot. Before that I remember positioning my legs like Dawson used to.

I did the Sheffield waggle. I remember watching a game and the announcers explained that it helped him time his swing and I thought that was pretty cool.

I didn’t do Dawson but I did half jokingly like to do the bow legged Moises Alou stance

We are going to arbitration with Grimm, first ever for Theo/Jed running the Cubs. We offered $2.2 million and he asked for $2.475, surprised they couldn't settle around ~$2.3 million.

The Cubs’ transaction list under Epstein and Hoyer reads like a work of fiction, a wish-fulfillment list composed in hindsight.

Because Grimm was trying to get a guaranteed contract. As an arbitration contract, he can still be cut during ST and only receive a prorated amount.

Yeah, just median projections after some down years last year and we are clear, easy favorites in the division. If we get growth from guys like Russell, Schwarbs and Javy...good god. If we get that and bounce backs from Zobrist and Heyward, we could set records.

What always amused me most about the SOTMRFIB complaining was them saying that we were thin. We've got guys on the bench that can step in and contribute as valuable regulars at every position but catcher. We now have depth in the rotation, too.

Honestly, I'll be really disappointed with anything less than 97 wins. Which is freaking insane.

looking at 2016 without the ability of hindsight? tough call, but probably 2016 because my expectations for schwarber and heyward were extremely high before they were basically immediately crushed, not to mention fowler being part of the team.

but, i like the rotation and bullpen depth much better for the 2018 version of the cubs going in, and the emergence of contreras is basically on par with the production i was expecting from one of schwarber/heyward.

ok, maybe 2018. we're winning the world series again this year is what i'm trying to say.

Yeah, what makes me pause are my, admittedly, unfair expectations for Schwarber and Heyward going in to 2016, plus the assumption that godmode Jake was going to still be a thing all season.

yeah, even soler i still had quite high hopes for. i truly thought that we had 4 likely above average OFs on the roster. this year, i look at the OF group and i'm just kind of like, "yeah, we'll figure out some combination that works."

It is just absurd that for as good as the 2016 team was projected to be, 2018 is projected one win better in the rotation(when you add Darvish), one win better for position players, and one win better in the bullpen. I don't think anyone should count on 100+ wins as a rule, but I think if that happens it's gonna be apparent pretty quickly. A lot of people have labeled last year's performance as regression to the mean instead of potentially being a WS/injury hangover, and there's a whole lot of potential for a pop-up 5 win season from the likes of Contreras/Russell/Baez.
