The Cubs’ transaction list under Epstein and Hoyer reads like a work of fiction, a wish-fulfillment list composed in hindsight.

We are down to 24th in K rate as a team (21%), we're 9th in BB rate (9.8%), second only behind the Red Sox in team OBP (.350), 4th in position player WAR, and also have the 6th best RD (+25) in the league. The offense is basically at where the 2016 offense was.

It’s likely he’s still going to be a relatively high K guy even if he fixes things but this is good to hear that he seems to have his mind in the right place. All MLB players are obviously professionals and they didn’t get here by being lazy and not working hard but it really seems like we do have a roster full of very professional and hard working guys, in the good and bad times, that genuinely “get it” and do whatever they can to improve and fix things.

And when stuff like this comes up it we always seem to hear they know they have to work on things and it’s not some arrogant answer back that they don’t acknowledge things need fixing and work needs to be put in.

We've scored the 2nd most runs in the division. 1 run behind the Vaunted Pirates (101 vs 102) and have the best RD (+22) despite playing anywhere between 2 to 4 games less than everyone else. I think the VBs, VPs and Cardinals would admittedly say they are playing good to great right now and you could admittedly say we aren't, despite the aforementioned stats above. We are tied in L column with the VBs and VPs and one back of the Cardinals. Things are going to be okay.

The Reds don't get consideration for this post because, well, they are the Reds.

The Cubs lead the NL in wRC and are 1 run off from the lead in runs.

They've also been HBP a weird number of times, their 21 leads MLB by a fair amount(the White Sox are 2nd with 16). The heart of the order(Bryant 7, Rizzo 5, Contreras 4) have been HBP as many times in 225 PA as any other combined team(which range from 700-825 PA).

There's some amazing old fuddy duddy complaining in this

The real attitude of the Cubs vis-a-vis their fans was never more evident than playing that game against the Braves. Pity the poor suckers who had to choose between attending a game in wintry and almost unbearable conditions versus the fact if the game went 5 innings, their ticket money was down the toilet. I would like to believe that the Cubs served free hot coffee and hot chocolate all afternoon to the fans who hung on to the end. Please tell me they did. If you do not know, shame on you for staying in your warm press box drinking all of the warm beverages you wanted for free. If you do not know, ask. I have been a Cubs fan for more than 70 years and I was so angry that they were playing that game I turned it off. Thank goodness no player was injured. — Peter W.

I go to 20-25 games every year and I started noticing that Cubs players don’t come out of their new locker room for the national anthem. To prove this, I started taking pictures of the field during the singing of the anthem. When you zoom in on the Cubs dugout, all you see is the coaches and manager and maybe one to two players; otherwise, the dugout is empty. What is the message they are portraying? I find this disrespectful to fans, veterans and the visiting team. I’ve always wanted to email Tom Ricketts about this, but the message won’t come from the masses so no change will happen. — Neal K.

For real, though; the sound system at Wrigley has had unbearably sound levels depending on where your sitting basically forever. The best seats we ever had for a couple of seasons were only marred by the deafening volume of the music/announcing.

Isn’t the upper deck the last part to be renovated and what the speakers are attached to mostly? Maybe when that gets done they’ll update the sound system.

pretty sure the sound at wrigley has been coming from the video boards since they put those in. they put some loud ass speakers there and the neighborhood was immediately complaining about how the music could be heard from a mile away.

The first week or two was insane. I lived just east of Halsted and could hear the noise from inside, and if i stepped out onto my back deck it was clear as day. After that they lowered it to a more reasonable level where I couldn't hear it inside, and outside it wasn't too much louder than general crowd noise.
